Early days for everybody. IMO we should wait until 23 before we have labeled players. In the 2003 U-20 WC the AMs, wings and forwards with most minutes were Convey, Johnson, Mapp, Adu, and Magee. Dempsey got 20 minutes. 3 years later, in the 2006 WC, Dempsey separated himself from the all those others and made the real statement. 12 years later there is just no argument.

I definitely agree but I think the US is getting to the point where we can tell a little earlier. All those guys you mentioned were in MLS, but MLS wasn't at the level it's at now. Dempsey was in college still. Some of those guys didn't develop further and some had injury problems, but Dempsey was behind the curve at that point because he was in college while some of those guys had been pros for several years. On this years team of the 7 listed MFs, 2 play in MLS and the other 5 play in stronger leagues. But, as I said, I'll certainly still refrain from passing a verdict on any of these guys careers at this point.

The top two goal scoring leaders and the assist leader didn't make the U-20 WC team, and rightfully so. Thats pretty interesting.
