Comments ...despite what appeared to a trend towards picking a younger squad, it seems to be mostly college based players ...still a little concerned about the keeper spot tho the upgrade at CB helps ...hey, Trinidad has been great for us in the past!
10 kids from the crash and burn u17s. I think many of those are actually age eligible for the 20s in the next cycle. They are really that much better than the age eligible college sophomores? That said a few of them I can see, but not all of them. Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over again and expecting a different outcome?
Its an interesting squad. Davidson will definitely be an immediate impact in the back assuming they play her at CB and not holding Mid. They may move her around based on the opponent. There are a few selections that are suspect and there are plenty of retreads. I think they get through without a problem, but there may be some changes come summer time
Apparently, CONCACAF will stream the entire tournament on its youtube page : https://www.youtube.com/user/concacaf/videos?live_view=502&shelf_id=19&view=2&sort=dd

I never saw a game where maybe 8 times a US player was called offside and the replay showed they were clearly on side. Everytime, the AR was not in position, the Nicaraguan back line was stepping up to trap, yet one of the fullbacks was usually not in line and keeping the US player onside. Really the only reason the score wasn't 5-0 or more. USA looked much better through the midfield and could complete passes, unlike the Nike Friendlies. But this was Nicaragua not Brazil or England.
Still 2-0 against Nicaragua is not exactly promising. In the past we typically would beat this level of team by about 6-0.
Nicaragua was well coached and had some good players. As we've discussed, women's player development in the USA is not turning out technical or tactically adept players. De Lo Melo was clearly the best player. Sanchez and Torres show flashes but are not consistent with their touches. The US got around the defense with Torres almost at will, but not much came from it as they rarely had numbers up or the crosses were wild.
I feel the US team is a hair away from being good. But that means that just now, they aren't good. Sad that they let Jamaica rattle them. They've got athleticism, fairly good technique, and an understanding of the game. They just need to put it all together. ...And learn how to shoot....
The finishing is atrocious. Have to wonder if these things will even up in this tournament. Some of it comes down to many of our players being one footed. Even Alex Morgan botched one against Denmark trying to twist to get her dominant foot on the ball rather than just tap it with the other foot. Sanchez in particular is snake bit. They showed the lack of mental toughness we see with many US Youth teams (and the senior men's team on that field), as I think the lack of finishing unnerved them and they fell apart defensively. It is always tough as Sanchez and her teammates are getting into good spots, just have the yips. If Davidson joins the team that will be a big upgrade.
It's a good thing CONCACAF gets 3 slots. The Mexico game is going to be very interesting. Poor results notwithstanding, the US is still the better team. However, the gap is small enough that Mexico could definitely get a tie or even score the upset which would almost certainly put the US against Canada in the semifinal. At this point I would probably expect Canada to beat the US.
USA looked better in this one but still couldn't get the final touch right. I expect we'll barely beat Haiti for the qualification much like our earlier games and then lose close to Canada.
