Who knows, maybe we'll get some rosters, media or news reports that give us a sense of what's going on down there. Since this is probably the last U20 gathering before qualifying, seems worth a thread. I know folks have been posting names of attendees to the U20 catchall thread and I suppose we could just wait or move that stuff there. My guess is that there are U20 qualifying roster candidates who will not be at this gathering. But given the unusual timing and its effects on various pro and college seasons, this camp may be unusually important.
Also, I know that some folks have reported that this might include a U20/U19/Venezuela/Jamaica mini-tournament. I did see this post from Venezula's FA that, while mainly about another event, does seem to semi-confirm that. I haven't yet seen anything from the JFF, but maybe I missed something.
Here's confirmation from the JFF saying the event starts tomorrow (and our U20s probably don't play until Friday). A National Under 20 squad will participate in a 2018 Invitational Tournament featuring Jamaica, Venezuela, the USA Under 19 and USA Under 20 Men's national teams September 5 - 11. The JFF was approached by US Soccer to participate in the tournament which will be held at the IMG Academy at Bradenton, Florida. ... And here's a bit more from the VFA: Para esta fecha FIFA, no sólo la Vinotinto absoluta tendrá roce internacional sino que también una delegación de la categoría sub-20 viajará a Estados Unidos, donde disputará un cuadrangular internacional durante los días 7, 9 y 11 de septiembre. http://www.federacionvenezolanadefu...-el-torneo-de-estados-unidos-con-buen-futbol/ This may explain why we haven't seen a roster yet (and why we may not see one for a bit).

Good to see Ferri called in for the 19s. Heard he has been in Germany and may sign soon when he turns 18s. Bryan Reynolds must have impressed during the recent U18 camp as he also got the call as an 01 with Llanez. They have Reynolds listed as a forward but played him as a center back a few weeks ago. If anyone locates a site for the streaming of the games, please post it here.
Fontana and Real were called up from Philly but were injured. FYI, from what I understand, Tab likes Matt Real. Not just what he brings on the field but he likes what Real brings off the field as well (team guy, leadership, etc.)
U20 callup data updated here. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lfMvt087D65kHEJtitNuODh4dPgpKCQTi6Ae9VJ2c0g/edit?usp=sharing Only one guy is 5-for-5 this cycle...
OK, based on my records, which could be incomplete.... Ayo Akinola is the only new player in the U20 camp. He had previously been in a U19 camp. I have seven players getting called into a U19/U20 camp for the first time: Isaac Angking, Julian Araujo, Khai Brisco, Nathan Harriel, Carlo Ritaccio, Bryan Reynolds and Manuel Terrazas. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first US Soccer camp for Terrazas. Not sure if he's an 00 or an 01. Four players who previously had been a U20 call-up were "demoted" to the U19s for this camp: Taylor Booth, Chris Goslin, George Acosta and Uly Llanez. I imagine these rosters will be fairly fluid with some movement between the two camps, especially for the 00s and 01s. Speaking of 01s, I have (at least) five called up but it could be six depending on what year Terrazas was born: Araujo, Harriel, Booth, Llanez and Reynolds. Besides the 01s, three players in the U19 camp are listed as being in the Class of 2019 and haven't gone pro or matriculated to college yet: Brisco, Blaine Ferri, and Joshua Penn. Interestingly, Brisco (Sounders) is the only ones affiliated with an MLS academy. Four players - Christian Cappis and Alex Mendez with the 20s and Sam Fowler and Akil Watts with the 19s are supposedly done with HS but haven't gone pro or matriculated to college. Fowler signed with Washington but isn't listed on their roster. He may be taking a gap year to preserve a year of NCAA eligibility instead of sitting behind an upperclassmen. Frankie Amaya (UCLA, Fr.), Griffin Dorsey (Indiana, So.) and Manny Perez (NC State, So.), are the only players in the U20 camp who are currently playing college soccer. Mark McKenzie and Brandon Servania each played a year at Wake Forest and are now pros. Four players in the U19 camp are currently playing college ball: Jean-Julien Foe Nuphaus (California, Fr.), Declan McGlynn (Seattle Univ., Fr.), Johan Penaranda (Pittsburgh, Fr.), Carlo Ritaccio (Akron, Fr.). 12 of the 22 U20s are 99s, 10 00s. 13 of the 19 U19s are 00s and 5 are 00s and we (I) don't know about Terazzas. As always, corrections and omissions welcome.
Very nice. We normally combine like terms, so let's make the 5 00s 01s. As a bonus, there are some nice names to work with, Terrazzas included.
Thanks. One other numerical tidbit. By my count, Tab has now looked at 62 people with the U20s and 26 more have been with just the 19s. So 88 players have gotten a chance to be evaluated in a U20/U20 cycle that isn't a year old, yet.
We ID'd over half (22 of 41) of the U19/U20 callups solely by social media stalking. I'm pretty sure most of the players we didn't ID simply didn't post anything or aren't on Instagram/Twitter.
Wonder why Watts is listed as Unattached? There's video of him signing his contract with Mallorca a couple months ago. Haven't kept up if he's played for any of their youth teams to start the season.
What I find interesting is Llanez and Goslin demoted. I didn't think Acosta was making it anyway, so not like it matters that much. Goslin and Llanez might have their spots in jeopardy. Goslin has had a bad season, while Llanez faces a numbers crunch in attacking midfield. As a player playing up a cycle, he might find it tougher to make it. I'm surprised Ledezma isn't on this team, but I suspect there's a good reason for that. DC has a game this week, so thats why no Durkin. Sargent, Weah, Adams situations have already been covered. I also don't understand why no James Sands. He should be Durkin's back up this cycle, but for some reason Ramos doesn't seem to rotate what he brings. The lack of de la Fuentes call ups this cycle makes no sense to me. I'd hope he isn't considering switching to Spain's YNT's.
Ledzema is on trial with PSV. And for de la Fuentes, he has just been promoted to Juvenile A and fight for spot on the opening season, so that might explain the absence (hope so).
I'm choosing, based on nothing but what I consider my version of common sense, not to read much into the "demotions." If you want to bring in as many '99s as you can, it's logical that you'd move younger guys down to the U19s. This event lasts several days and both U.S. teams will get three matches, including one against each other. Whatever Ramos wants to look at, he should get a chance to between matches and training.
It will be very interesting to see how this all shakes out. Between these players and others who are not there Ramos should be able to put together a good qualifying team. Unlike past teams my hope is that there won't be anyone selected who doesn't really belong.
How long is Ledezma's trial? I thought he already had it. de la Fuente hasn't been called into either the U-19 or U-20 team all cycle. The lack of call ups so far this cycle isn't just about earning a spot right now with Juvenil A
Ledezma and Mendez both turn 18 on Thursday. Neither would be eligible to play official matches in Germany or Netherlands until January. Also hearing that Ledezma is out with a foot injury, which is keeping him off the pitch for several weeks and explains why he isn't in the current U20 camp.— scuffed (@scuffedpod) September 4, 2018
Happy to see Ayo and Soto with the U20s. Doesn't seem like striker is going to be a problem for qualifying anymore. Also glad to see Araujo get called up. I'm concerned about Cappis being unattached. Shouldn't he be somewhere by now? As for Watts, I'd be surprised if listing him as unattached isn't a mistake.
Speaking of Araujo, I don't see him listed on the LAG U16/17 DA roster. Oversight, or something else?
