Not sure if you're still interested in this info, but Amir Bashti has now signed with ATL UTD 2. PRO SIGNING 📝| After spending his summer in League Two with @SFGlensSC, Amir Bashti signs for @atlutd2 in the USL Championship#Path2Pro https://t.co/BGEDFEX9yD— USL League Two (@USLLeagueTwo) August 22, 2019 https://www.atlutd.com/post/2019/08/22/atlanta-united-2-signs-amir-bashti Marcello Borges is (was?) playing for Detroit City FC - not sure if he signed a pro contract. He was also recently hired as part of the coaching staff for Michigan Thunder. Thanks for this. I'd last spotted Bashti on trial in Germany, and didn't see that news. I confess I'm confused about Borges. I think the NISA is professional, but I'm not sure if Borges is part of that effort. Then there's the NPSL stuff. I'm guessing he wasn't a pro, but that is just a guess, and I'd love to be corrected.
Here's my list of 2017 U20 callups (mainly 97/98 YOBs) who aren't pros yet: Bell Jonathan -- Sr., UMBC Borges Marcello -- finished school at Michigan in 2019 Burns David -- ?? Jones Malcolm -- ??, does not appear to have played Sr. season at UCLA in 2018 Kelly Jeremy -- Sr., UNC Lopez Leonardo "Leo" -- ?? Martin Henry -- finished school at Princeton in 2019, may be working out of soccer Morris Jake -- So., Tyler JC Pelaez Pablo -- RS-Sr., San Diego State Pineda Mauricio -- Sr., UNC Popovic Nebojsa "Nash" -- playing as a graduate student at U-Mich. Salas Martin -- Sr., UNC Silva Diego -- Thought he would be a Sr. at Utah Valley, but not on roster Suddoth Toni -- ??, lower-division Germany but I would guess did not ever sign a pro contract Terwege Brandon -- Jr., SMU Wilson Sean -- RS-Sr., Xavier Winter Abu -- Thought he would be a Jr. at York, but not on roster @Sandon Mibut, Silva appears (after seemingly turning up at UVU) to have un-turned up there. I would guess most of the guys currently in D1 soccer will at least have a chance to continue their careers if they choose to, but who knows.
I count 10 pros of the guys called up for the current U20s, having just added Rittacio and Sepulveda to my list. Anybody with confirmed pro contracts missing here? Boateng Kwabena Bonilla Jose Kevin De la Fuente Konrad Harper Cameron Harriel Nathan Hawkins Jalen Hoffmann Ian Palomino Marcelo Ritchie Stuart Schulte Patrick Tessmann Tanner Vassilev Indiana https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lfMvt087D65kHEJtitNuODh4dPgpKCQTi6Ae9VJ2c0g/edit?usp=sharing
Presumably he will be but there's only been one camp for the 01/02 group so far and he wasn't there. With that said, do we know if he has a pro contract yet?
I don't know what type of contract Booth signed with Bayern earlier this year. It's been reported as a "two and a half year" deal, and he's playing for the Bayern U19s. Ten years ago, that would have been considered a professional contract in Germany, but I am out of the loop. Do German clubs have informal, youth team contracts for U19s now? Either way, I like Booth as a prospect.
One can certainly be in a club's academy without being professional. Dest, for example, signed a pro deal with Ajax last December, though he had been with the club for years. I'm sure there are YNT-relevant German examples too, I'm just too lazy to think of one... and in any case, I just try to be careful for tracking purposes, though I guess it's also pertinent in the sense that without a pro contract, first-team (and perhaps certain other) appearances are unlikely.
Following the Costa Rica match, 11 members of the 2019 U20 pool have received at least one cap. That doesn't include Adams (who does however count for 2017); I do count Ferreira, however, since he got a callup while not yet a citizen but is one now. The pool obviously includes several guys who seem very close and a few others who are maybe not quite as close but are on their way. And it's worth noting that Aaronson wasn't called in but now has been capped. (That's not something I track unless someone makes a World Cup roster but I figure someone else does...) And Llanez is the first member of the current cycle to get a cap, though he has't technically been called up for the new U20s yet.
Did I miss any outdoor pro contracts (at any level) from this group? Bell Jonathan Borges Marcello Burns David Jones Malcolm Lopez Leonardo "Leo" Martin Henry Morris Jake Pelaez Pablo Popovic Nebojsa "Nash" Salas Martin Suddoth Toni Terwege Brandon Wilson Sean Winter Abu
Herrera's cap brings the number of guys from the 2017 (97/98) pool to get MNT appearances to 15 (out of 87 total guys called up). One could certainly see this number rising, with Mauricio Pineda seemingly next in line, but there are a few other guys out there who might also get in.
Borges was playing with New York Cosmos in NISA back in the fall, I'd assume on a pro deal. I haven't found anything confirming a pro deal.
If he played for them in the NISA, I think that by definition is a pro deal -- pretty sure the NISA is fully professional across the board. Have you seen a signing announcement or box score?
I think NISA has academy deals like USL but I don't think senior players can be on amateur deals. https://www.nisaofficial.com/match-center/121/nyc-vs-msfc https://www.nisaofficial.com/match-center/123/nafc-vs-nyc
These are the only guys I have with 2021 cycle callups who I'm not sure have pro contracts -- maybe the Europe-based ones do, but it's not clear to me. Anyone know? Benalcazar Nico Boateng Kwabena Pierre Kurowskybob "Bobby" Ritchie Stuart Schulte Patrick Stojanovic Stefan
Separately -- are there any missing pro contracts among these guys from the 2019 U20s? I believe Salas was drafted but not sure he signed: Becher Simon Davis Gideon Marks George Mendoza Glademir Nicola Chris Tracey Greg Vom Steeg Carson Garces Justin Morris Jake Salas Mark Stiebel Seth Zarris Aristotle Zawadski Sean
A pro deal for Salas was announced the day after I posted this: https://www.fcdallas.com/news/north...north-carolina-and-fc-dallas-academy-product-
Becher Simon -- rising senior at SLU, led team in goals last season Davis Gideon -- rising junior at Gonzaga, starter last season Marks George -- rising senior at Clemson, starter last saeson Mendoza Glademir -- rising senior at NAIA Ottawa (Ariz.), starter last season Nicola Chris -- DNP last season at Va. Tech for reasons I didn't look into, but seems to be a rising junior Tracey Greg -- rising senior at Portland, frequent starter last season Vom Steeg Carson -- RS-Jr. at UCSB in 2019; team played only exhibitions last season and I don't know if he played in them Garces Justin -- rising senior at UCLA, starter last season Morris Jake -- rising senior at UCLA, contributing reserve last season Stiebel Seth -- was a freshman at SLU for 2018 season, appears to have been hurt Zarris Aristotle -- rising junior at Wake Forest, DNP last season Zawadski Sean -- rising senior at G'town, starter last season
Any info on Andres Jimenez? Last I saw he was with Envigado in Colombia, but am not sure if that is up to date.
Now that we're through the first three matches of WCQ, I can update the U20 callup tracker -- which, you might recall, attempts to follow the progress of players called into U20 pools as they advance through the system. Covid and a, let's say, gradual restart of the YNTs has kind of broken the data a bit, but there are bigger things to worry about. Anyway -- Pepi has not yet been called into a U20 program, but he's now capped at the WCQ level, despite still being age-eligible for one. That's, at a minimum, rare if not unprecedented, certainly in the post-90s era, certainly x2 for U.S.-born/raised/based players. Among other things, the 99/00 group is starting to rack-up WCQ appearances -- there are now several who have them, with many likely contributors not yet involved. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lfMvt087D65kHEJtitNuODh4dPgpKCQTi6Ae9VJ2c0g/edit?usp=sharing
Updating my tracker through the latest round of WCQs, the 99/00 U20 pool continues to be massively consequential to the program; 7 guys with U20 callups during that cycle now have WCQ appearances, and that doesn't include Adams, who wasn't called up for that one but was previously. The two previous "classes" have 10 players with WCQs combined. Meanwhile, those 99/00s who don't yet have WCQ appearances include both a number of players who could certainly figure during this or the next cycle, and some quality players who have switched out. (Araujo played with these guys though he was playing up.)
Carson vom Steeg signed with Loudoun. That's one more pro for the 2019 U20 class, with more boxes to be checked soon...
I was starting to think that this guy had disappeared, but he has made three first-team appearances for Envigado in the 2022 season.
