If anyone watches the final minutes of the Italy vs Mexico match in 2002 can see it was very similar to the Sweden vs Portugal final minutes. There wasn't a biscotto per se in that match until we drew late on through Del Piero, after that both teams passed the ball in midfield for the remainder of the match.

Many people forget, including trolls, that Italy still would have gone through with a loss as long as Ecuador held the 1-0 scoreline. Which they did.

I've heard trolls of other teams say here before " if it wasn't for a late Del Piero equalizer and Croatia shitting the bed etc etc" but they forget the fact the Del Piero equalizer wasn't needed for Italy to progress...Ecuador held on for the win and I believe their match with Croatia ended a few minutes before Italy's match with Mexico

Now if Croatia had managed to equalize....yeah the Del Piero goal was crucial

If Croatia had managed to steal a win then Italy would have been ********ed unless they stole a win against Mexico

You should just stick to supporting the Socceroos. That way with lowered expectations, you'd never be disappointed.

or you could look at it the other way

many great teams squads in particular tourney years and good footballing nations in general have never even made it to the dance

Making it to the final is literally half the battle

The more finals you make the higher the probability you win tournaments

Italy has won 4 out of 6 WC finals....with 94 ending in pk's...1970 to a great Brazilian team with Pele in top form

and has won 1 out of 3 Euro Finals...2000 France pulled a miracle ...didn't help either Del Piero missed 2 sitters to make the match 3-0 late and Cannavaro heading the ball right into Wiltord's chest for the equalizer in late injury time....2012 was a great Spanish squad and our wheels almost literally fell off in the final

a lot of countries can only dream to be in that position throughout history

Italy no matter her strength ( ex 2002 ) will always be an enigma

Yes in the end the Del Piero goal was meaningless, as were most of his goals with the Azzurri, still a great player and most of those meaningless goals were top class.

Yes I believe you are correct once word the other match had finished, the game really went into a training session mode. You would think the boys would have pushed to grab top place in the group but after hectic group stage I think they were just relieved to survive.

Yet another Italian fairytale .... only a Danish or Swedish win or a 0-0 draw between Denmark and Sweden would have kept Italy in for sure ... so Denmark were NOT in need of a 2-2 result .... truth of the matter is that Italy were scoring too few goals in this group in compare with Denmark and Sweden.

They knew before the game that that result would guarantee their and Sweden's passage into the knockouts

Point he was making was a 2-2 draw saw the both of you through. Personally I couldn't give a ******** as we went on to win the world cup 2 years later.

I often wonder if they had won in 2004 if they would have been hungry enough in 2006.
But Vieri was struggling by then, was never the same player for Italy after that miss against Korea.

I've thought the same thing myself Totti. Even if they won in euro 2000. Knowing how arrogant and spoilt our players are I think a euro win in 2000 would have satisfied them until euro 2012:ROFLMAO:

And on Vieri, yeah he wasted several chances at Euro 2004. How the ******** did he miss that shot vs Korea? Un********ingreal. The idiot cost us a place in the quarters.

I'll add this about Denmark-Sweden. The 2-2 scoreline was odds on favorite with the books. Not a win for either team or a tie but the 2-2 scoreline. It was like the books knew what was going to happened before it did.
