I don't know if this thread has been started yet, but anyone heading up to Montreal/Ottawa, and is there any news on tickets yet? I know I'll be driving up from Boston.
Tickets are pretty cheap from what I read. Check out this site. It says the largest ticket package for all the first round games, round of 16, and quarterfinals, is $150. And that's in Canadian dollars. http://www.rio.gouv.qc.ca/zoneinfo/accueil.jsp?id=418#info418
I'm there. I'm just deciding whether I'll be trying to catch all of the first round Toronto games as well.
I waiting on kick off times to be announced for final plans but I was already planning to be in Rochester and Montreal for my Carolina RailHawks' matches on July 6 and 8. Looks like I might see Mexico/Portugal in Toronto on the 5th too. Here's hoping USA v. Brazil is a noon kickoff, so I can make from Ottawa to Rochester in time to see both matches that day!
I posted this in the youth forum too but... Ottawa and Monteal are less than a 2 hour drive from each other. Taking the wife/etc. over to Montreal (which is about as European as you'll get in North American) for a few days and then driving over to Ottawa, the capital of Canada, would be an excellent trip around the 4th of July holiday. You won't be disappointed...poutine, smoked meat, beavertails, etc. Parliament Hill, St. Catherine's Street, Old Montreal, etc. The list goes on and on why it'll be a hell of a fun trip...
Here's the schedule with times. It's from FIFA so take that into account for accuracy concerns. fyi - US-Bra 1945 start.
Any supporters sections for these games? almost not worth it to show up and to be told to sit down and shut up by some bored parents of whiney kids out for a nice "international experience", if you know what I mean... rand
Check out the link in my post above. It has more information on tickets and a phone number to order. Edit: Click on "English" at the top of the page
I'll be in the Rochester area in July. Does anyone know if we need passports? Not sure when the new policies kick in.
I'm going to try and catch one game in Montreal (not sure which one), but between that, Gold Cup, Copa America and Champions League, It's going to be a busy summer of travelling...
Passports are only required for air travel. If traveling by road the requirement won't go in to effect until 2008.
Go to the ATM and withdraw Canadian dollars. The exchange you'll get at a store is likely par (ie. dollar for dollar and hence you lose 18% value)
In. Going up for the 1st rd only. Apparently, Monty's in for at least a game or two, Jamison, and others. Get stuck in folks, it's aboot that time to turn over eastern Canada.
Go to ussoccer.com, there's information there about buying tickets. Click on "Schedule and Events". It looks like you can buy tickets to the first two games online, www.admission.com.
I'm sure that the individual match tickets will go on sale in a few weeks/months after they have attempted to sell the packages first. Right now it is still the package on Admission. http://www.admission.com/html/evinfo.htmI?CNTX=70138&l=EN&C=
Or, Canada Day (what was Dominion Day yet is the Great White North's independence day, July 1 yet celebrated this year on Monday, July 2). With the holiday weekend and the Montreal Jazz Festival running in that period, early hotel reservations could be important. www.montrealjazzfest.com/preFIJM2007/accueil_en.aspx As for money, of course you'll need Canadian dollars. Just hit the ATM. If you're flying to Canada, absolutely bring your passport. Even if you're driving, your passport is probably as easy or easier than trying to find your Social Security card or birth certificate. Just bring it.
