Well, first off you have to try out for your state ODP(Olympic Development Program) team,if you make that then you have to try out for regional ODP team and if you make theat then you might get invited to try out for the National team.

You say you're turning 17 this October that means you were born in 1987.

If this is correct you have no shot at making the U.S. U17s. The U17s are now composed of players born in 1988 or later because they are preparing for the 2005 FIFA U17 World Championship. In 2005 players will need to be born after 1988 (you know, be 17 years old).

My guess is you haven't graduated High School yet.

If you want to play club soccer in the U.S. contact the Michigan Youth Soccer Association (http://www.msysa.net) to find a club. If you're really good enough you could find a team through them.

You could even try this link...http://www.msysa.net/odpregintro.html.

Playing on a club team - to start with - is the only way you could have any chance at playing for any U.S. National Team.

ODP would be the next step towards your goal.

Of course, I sure hope you're a U.S. citizen; which I can't determine for sure by your first post. You need to be a U.S. citizen to represent the U.S.

    Good luck!

P.S. When you make it and are being interviewed on T.V., make sure you tell everyone Preston North End on BigSoccer pointed you in the proper direction.

ODP is crap. It's the biggest waste of time. The Area team isn't too hard to make, but after that it's politics.

Don't get your hopes on making the team -- it's not because you're not good enough, I am not saying that you are not (you maybe are really good), but the tryouts are run by complete morons.

    I'll admit it. ;)

But the only time I tried out, I only went to one of the three tryouts, so of course there was no way I was making the team.

I have several friends who have done ODP and all that I have heard is that it is a waste of time.

That list is the Ontario Provincial Team. This is the team you would want to be on.

No. They're national soccer development centres for promising young players.

It sounds like if you're playing for an ok provincial club side and you haven't been picked up for further development or the provincial squad, you're possibly just not on that level. You could get in touch with some of the contacts listed by Grah to arrange a tryout - but there's probably a reason you haven't already been scouted for the team.
