Boyd came on in 83' when it was 3-1. Ended as a 4-1 win.

I hope he can continue seeing more time. He looked like a near lock at winger to compliment Pulisic until Weah improved.

He would be a star here and stagnate

Boyd is not that good. I'd be surprised if he rises above mediocre in MLS.

My biggest fear is my local Phoenix Rising sign him.

Do you mean "star" in the way that the British tabloids use the term to refer to any player on any team roster?

Yeah, it looks very much like he had a good run of form from January-June of this year, but outside of that, he has been a thoroughly unremarkable player.

I never thought he was going to become a regular at Besiktas, but I can’t knock him for capitalizing on well deserved hype. However, while his two previous successful seasons were at lesser clubs, they were still in quality European leagues. How many American attacking players have put up his numbers at that level in recent memory (double digit goals in less than 50 apps)?

Think it’s awfully presumptuous to assume he wouldn’t succeed in MLS. Look at the value a player like Arriola brings to DC. Plenty of MLS sides would like a reasonably young, versatile attacker who doesn’t take up an international or DP (hopefully) slot.

I suspect this hypothesis will be tested soon enough.

Boyd seems like somebody who could get good coaching in Belgium and score some goals to get his career off the launching pad. He appears to have potential.

His team is very poor.... They looked so bad against Wolves... just dismal. Boyd was literally on an island and any time one of his teammates got the ball anywhere near the 18 they looked to shoot instead of pass. Just really hard to watch. That being said, Boyd didn't exactly flash either. At this point I think he may have a confidence issue and am not sure he will be able to pull himself out of it on that team. He would be far better off in the MLS at this point.

He's just turned 25. It's a bit late for getting coaching to address fundamental weaknesses in his game (tactical discipline, tactical understanding, spatial awareness, etc). The Belgian teams that could do that wouldn't because, at this stage, he's already pretty much the player he's going to be. Add his wages, to the equation and they'd refuse him, even on a free transfer.

Arriola is not a star in MLS and probably is in the bottom half or worse of DPs.

Jordan Morris is probably the very definition of a borderline Star in MLS — you can make a case for him but if he weren’t American would anyone bother? And Morris is a clearly better player than Boyd.

I don’t see a lot of evidence he’d be a star. More like decent starter.

up until Morris stepped up his game, I think Boyd and he were at a similar level.

Since then Morris has played extremely well while Boyd has moved in the other direction. Perhaps we’ll see a reversion to the mean but I hope that Morris can maintain his higher level.

It isn't surprising Morris is a late bloomer given that he only entered a full-time professional environment four years ago, or at least four years behind schedule.

And he missed a year with an ACL tear. But he's won the title twice.

I wasn't as opposed to him starting his career with Seattle as much as others. Developing at home has its benefits and some players need it more than others (and it could be a set back for some players to do otherwise).

But I think he needs to strongly consider a possible move to one of the better Euro Leagues. He's done all that he can with Seattle - which is a lot.

And yes, he's better than Boyd at the moment. Boyd had an unreal streak for 4-5 months early in 2019. But sadly that looks like all it was, an abnormal blip. But it got him paid, so it wasn't insignificant.

Do you have any insight about whether he has any interest?

    Re: Morris leaving for Europe.

Unlikely. He's an asset to the league and Euro clubs would rather have our kids on a free. No one is going to pay MLS what they are going to ask for him.

MLS has, historically anyway, demanded pretty high or even deal-breaker transfer fees for American players, so the habit/practice of scouting MLS just isn't there.

IMO the real question is what Morris does when there's 12-15 months left on his contract. If he keeps posting these numbers and he instructs his agents to actively canvass the Euro leagues.

If he changes agents at around that time, you can be sure that that's what he's targeting
