The articles on Dr. Leberbauer do sound sketchy to English-speaking ears, I must say. Even though many sports figures do swear by the guy.

It could be the habit of repeating a person's full name in German (in English journalese we tend to use pronouns or just the last name, unless a worshipful effect is intended). Or maybe he's another smart guy who gets lucky for a while. Who knows.

    His credentials are legit though.

    No surprise to me.

They have 3 matches before the winter break:

    Dec. 14 - Dusseldorf away
    Dec. 17 - Dortmund away
    Dec. 21 - Augsburg home

Two of those are easy wins, and one is the type of game where you really don't want to be reintegrating a player recovering from a long-term injury.

So, if he's going to play before the break, I'd say it's going to happen in either of the weekend matches. I'd rather he sit out until January.

Every day he is half way closer to full recovery.

It's like in the Holy Grail movie, the guys at the castle are looking in the distance to see the approaching king and his men. Every cut away to the king riding the horses you can see the king is farther away, even as he rides towards the castle.

Then *boom* the king is at the castle door. That will be Jan2020 in our case, when Tyler gets player of the month in the BL.

The winter break will occur in about 10 days. Adams is likely to re-emerge from the break with fresh injuries and an expectation of readiness postponed to the summer, well ahead of the 2020/21 season start. During the preseason Tour of America, he'll manage to get clipped simultaneously by two different players who each damage one of his achilles tendons, and his return from injury clock will be re-set to the end of the winter break.

    I hate you.

Either that or you're to be admired for an admirable reverse jinx.

Truth be told, Leipzig is not exactly missing him: second on the table, winners of their Champions League group. So even if he were fit at this point, it's unlikely he'd be a starter again. They've found great team chemistry, and sadly without him.

It isn’t unlikely if he outperforms the existing starter like he did when he was healthy.

yeah, not sure about not reincorporating a better player just because team is playing reasonably well. second isn’t first and the counterfactual is a healthy adams who is as effective as last season perhaps has them top of table and ruthlessly exploiting the unusual wobbles from bayern and bvb

They're not playing "reasonably well." This is the best they have ever looked. Last season they couldn't make it out of the Europa, now they topped their Champions group. First time ever in their short history that they've made it past group in the Champs.

And Diego Demme may be a workhorse with little creativity, but he's playing well enough not to expect someone returning from eight months injury to replace him right away.

I'm just being objective here: don't expect Adams to regain his spot soon. It's going to be a climb, even after he's recovered and match fit.

Adams has already proven he’s better than Demme. If his health returns he will take Demme’s place.

I can't remember how they were doing at the break last year, but Adams transferred there in January, became a starter after a few games, and then when starting the team gave up on goal (a questionable penalty) in 9 or 10 games. And he was a huge part of that.

Still, I imagine it will be tough to break back in with their current standing, but if he can exhibit that kind of form in training and the minutes they give him to regain fitness, I can see it happening. I wouldn't be surprised though if it doesn't really happen until next season. And I'm fine with that - he's young and been out a long time. No need to rush, risk current team chemistry, or, God forbid, re-injury. I'll be happy if he gets a few minutes playing this season.

RBL will need depth. Adams is better than anyone currently on the bench. He will get to play - perhaps first as depth, but I believe if he regains his full fitness he will regain his starting role sometime in January.
