Any word on the price tag? I know it's kind of an internal transfer, but I still hope he went for a decent price.

Also, after watching Leipzig dominate a very good Gladbach team today, I'm less certain about Adams getting minutes in the near future with them. Earlier in the season, I thought it was setting up as pretty much ideal for him--coming into a good team, but one that was struggling a bit and needed shoring up defensively in midfield. Now Leipzig seem to be firing on all cylinders and are only 1 point out of 2nd in the league. I still have confidence in Adams, though.

They've lost 3 of their last 5, and he'd mostly be competing with Diego Demme for playing time. He might not win that battle initially, but I think he will by the end of the season.

It will help that he has a natural ally on the coaching staff to ease the transition a little.

Fixture congestion would also help. RBL are 3rd in their group in Europa league, they need a win and some help the final match day to advance. Let’s hope that happens as that would help open up PT opportunities for Tyler

That's a major understatement. They need uninterested Salzburg to beat Celtic which qualifies with a draw at Glasgow.

Salzburg as in RB Salzburg? So their affiliate is uninterested? I bet management makes them very interested.

Might be true, and Salzburg is winning everything this year. Like every game. Still Celtic at Glasgow is always tough.

So if Leipzig feels he isn’t quite ready yet I’d hope they’d loan him right away.

Unless they see him as an insurance for if one of their DMs / CMs go down.

I don't agree, if only because he's been playing straight through this calendar year - January camp and 7 other international caps, plus 38 first-team appearances with New York. A break for the next couple of months, allowing him to settle into life in Leipzig, followed by integration into the first team after the winter break seems fine to me.

ETA: Barring injury, he's going to play in at least one of the Gold Cup or U-20 World Cup this summer. He's going to be playing first team club football in fall 2019 somewhere, which means he would be playing almost without interruption from January 2018 to June 2020. I'm all for getting young players solid playing time, but that seems to be asking for a significant muscle injury. He's age eligible for the 2020 Olympics, too, so that window could stretch even further.

Adams is smart, versatile, physically gifted and eager to improve. By all accounts he’s freakishly mature, dedicated and intense for a 19-year-old. Stories abound of him getting stuck into much older teammates on the RBNY training ground even as a wet-behind-the-ears kid, and MLS fans may recall his cold-eyed faceoff with an angry Jozy Altidore in last year’s MLS Cup Playoffs. And he’s in the right place to keep learning.

I remember some comments from their coach back in October or so, pointing out that there were a couple players that could help them immediately but for some reason or another they had not been able to complete the transfer yet. Peoples hunch at the time was that that included Adams who is kind of plug and play in this style. Also he has shown the ability to increase his speed of play within a game or series of games, so all indication to me is that he is going to play within the very near future. But who knows could take him a minute.

Who's the current RBL midfielder that we should start to demonize?

As far as I know, he can’t play until January anyway. So not until after the winter break.

MLS roster rules and the fact that this wasn't an arm's length transaction make it totally pointless to try to compare whatever money that changed hands in this deal to a regular transfer.

Yea, I'm not sure what a transfer of money between the various Red Bull entities really even means.

Yeah, exactly. My (imperfect) understanding is that there's not necessarily any difference between what actually happened and RB HQ paying RBNY a "transfer fee" of $750k and quietly boosting the club's operating budget by $2.25m next year.

    It's all in the optics.

Well it's money that's housed in New Jersey and not Leipzig. That has to count for something. Now RBNY can use that money without asking permission, presumably.

I hate that guy. The team only plays the ball to his side.
