Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread Better shows, like The Office or 30 Rock. Seinfeld was never funny to me, even in standup comedy or Amex commercials. Oh, and touche on the Teletubbies...I was too slow to the draw, lol.
Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread I love The Office. With subtle humor like that, I'm really surprised you don't like Seinfeld.
Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread Friends and Scrubs are completely different types of shows. I only watched friends to look at Jennifer Aniston. Scrubs is ok. I'm a Seinfelder for life.
Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread The Office probably doesn't exist in America if not for the first seven or so seasons of Seinfeld. 30 Rock probably doesn't exist if not for the last two.
Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread While I loved that show, I don't think it was better than Seinfeld. For the longest time, I had a crush on Maura Tierney.
Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread Friends is average, it's a medium for commercial breaks. Scrubs had its moments, years ago, and is OK. Newsradio was sadly short lived, very funny, but very shallow. The Office (UK) was a dark, awkward, cringeworthy slice of utter genius and originality. The Office (US) started very poorly and got better and better and better and better. Seinfeld is/was, as I said, the second best pure sitcom ever, bested only in that genre by Blackadder. What's not funny about "I was alone..." or Phil the high-talker? Or Frank Costanza? Or Kenny Rogers' Roasters? Or the Soup Nazi? Or a million other genius moments?
Re: New and Improved Chelsea Shirt Thread This is a good description. I loved Newsradio but there wasn't much depth to the show and, after Phil Hartman died, it went downhill fast.
Seinfeld is'nt funny,it never was sorry. but compared to the mass majority of other u.s. sitcoms based in reality i can almost see how it might be classed as funny from an american point of view.
I'm been a big fan of Peep Show and Green Wing. A mate of mine also lent me DVD of Spaced, which is fun. On the US comedies, I like Curb Your Enthusiasm. I never did get into Seinfeld. Just find the whole one camera laugh-track set up off putting.
I'm English. I like to think I am pretty well-versed in most kinds of television and film comedy. In fact, in my previous post I acclaimed both The Office (original) and Seinfeld as being made from genius.
My first comment, which started this all, only stated Seinfeld was overrated. I never said it wasn't funny at all. There are some very good episodes but most of the time I'm simply not impressed and not laughing.
You know what show I liked that never took off, "Two guys, a girl, and a pizza place." I thought it was funny. One show I can't understand is Fraser.
I didn't watch Sopranos so maybe I am wrong but I thought the show ended with Journey's Don't Stop Believin? I am a huge Journey fan and it seemed like after that episode everyone knew the song.
