I actually had to sit down and think about this, as I watch very little telly. Let's see what I have on the Tivo.. Battlestar Galactica. Dr Who. Multiple shows from the History channel. Multiple shows from the History International channel. Multiple shows from National Geographic. Multiple shows from the Military channel. ER Original CSI...can't stand NY and especially despise Miami. Ice road truckers. Heros. Stargate Atlantis. Several other things.....
Clan is oldHistory and Discovery all day, though. Especially at school when I'm in a haze half the time
Like Clan I don't watch much TV with some exceptions. I have been watching Flying Circus on DVD a lot though.
The Wire and Prison Break need to go on your "must see" list. Judging by your list, you'll really like 'em. LOL...I actually was into Dawson's Geek as well because of a girl I dated that loved the show. What can I say...I got sucked into it. I might have had a seret crush on Katie Holmes back then. My wife (an RN) unfortunatly loves the Real Life Trauma's of the ER and Judge Judy. Judge Judy, I can take, Real Life Traumas make me nauseaus...I can't take the sight of blood. Nice list - I love most of those as well. We also watched the whole first season of Jerico, not bad.
I need to watch it on DVD. I tried it on BET and all the grittiness was muted out so pretty much ruined. I enjoyed Dexter on Showtime. Eddie loved Oz - but I think he just enjoyed watching guys getting their salad tossed.
I can't believe that a) I didn't see this thread until now and b) it took until yesterday for the greatest piece of television art for a generation, if not of all time, to be mentioned. The Wire. Wow. Amazing. I could talk about great television for hours, I adore high quality television and I think it gets a bum deal compared to films. Kudos to Monkee for mentioning The Day Today and Brass Eye - Armando Ianucci has never been involved in a bad TV show. If you like those two, then The Armando Ianucci Show, Time Trumpet, Clinton: His Struggle With Dirt, 2004: The Stupid Version, and, of course, the greatest of all sitcoms in any English-speaking country ever, ever, ever, anywhere, ever... I'm Alan Partridge. Jackanackanory!
Chris Morris is a legend - I still quote TDT and BE until my sides hurt. This is the TV thread....happy now?? Christopher Morris: Peter, you've lost the news! What have you got to say? Peter O'Hanarha-hanrahan: I'm sorry. Christopher Morris: Look like you mean it! Look down at the ground and say "Sorry". Peter O'Hanarha-hanrahan: I'm sorry. Christopher Morris: Peter, next time you cross the road, don't bother looking.
I'm in the second season right now. For the first three episodes, it seemed scattered and nowhere near as intriguing as the first season, but the fourth episode that I just watched last night really pulled a lot of strings together and tied up all the loose ends that the previous three had left lying around. There's now a comprehensive case and the scattered elements all fit together. That's what I like about the show. Most others are too worried about retaining viewers to let things develop for a few episodes. They need concrete conclusions at the end of each one. The Wire trusted that I was intelligent enough to keep interested and has now produced a more compelling situation than it could have by tying things up at the end of each episode.
Ooh, the second was one of my favourites. At the time I wasn't so keen, but looking back and on re-viewings, it's so layered and dense, it's excellent. I think season 5 was the worst, or rather least brilliant. But then, HBO did it cut it to 10 shows, which was pretty weak of them.
Since people have been talking up The Wire, I downloaded all 5 seasons and intend to watch it soon. Hope y'all are right.
Be prepared for a slow start. But if you aren't hooked by episode 3, all hope is lost. I'm not quite sure how HBO keep on producing the best television there is, but by god they're good. I dunno if I said this already but The Wire is like The Shield for grown-ups.
I'll give it a shot. I love the Shield. Great acting, great writing. download utorrent software form www.utorrent.com and in the search window on the upper right hand corner type what you are looking for. It will directly take you to a site (can't remember the exact name) that provides you many different torrents. Download the torrent to whatever folder on your computer and once it's there, click the torrent and it will open the utorrent software again and ask you to confirm your intention to download. Depending on the # of seeds and your internet speed, you can have all 5 seasons w/in 24 hrs.
You shouldn't have to save the .torrent file, it should open up utorrent automatically. Doesn't always though...
I'm halfway through Season 3 of The Wire, and I've just discovered that one of my new favorite characters, Dennis, has a full name of... Dennis Wise! I like the guy even more now.
