Words you'll read a lot next summer as well: "huge declines" "on FS1" http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2017/07/confederations-cup-ratings-down-fs1-mlb-fox-espn-viewership/
To be fair, a lot of the decline has to do with simple time zone differences. I do think having more matches on "Simpsons" OTA FOX could help stop some of the bleeding next summer though.
Sure, there are a lot of factors at play. Time zones, match-ups, etc. But also there are issues with FS1's appeal and traction (like products on FS1 are almost always down from ESPN). Overall tournament average on FS1 was down vs overall average from SA 2009 with similar kickoff times for US audiences. Plus I think there is going to be a general reduction in World Cup popularity in the next 5 years -- mostly due to FIFA lunacy and Russia/Qatar awards.
The World Cup is still the World Cup. So I don't see the decline to be that much. The Copa America Centenario got pretty good numbers last summer for FS1.
I agree - they should go all in w/ big FOX seeing as that channel is a known commodity, and it's not like they have any credible national daytime programming that would be pre-empted. The whole FS1/FS2 thing seems to have been snakebit from the start - people still say they don't know where these channels are on their system.
Yup. For the women's World Cup they had 16 on FOX and 29 on FS1. I am hoping for Russia it will be more like 32 on FOX and 32 on FS1. (But it will probably be more like 22 and 42.)
