There is maneuvering, to be sure. In Oklahoma, you're also getting the bonus of intentional antagonization between the group bringing in USL and the group working to bring NASL because of old personal problems.
lol "The playing surface at ONEOK Field will be converted into a soccer pitch prior to each game with the field running from first base toward the left field wall. The dirt infield areas will be covered with sod to provide a complete grass surface playing field." How exactly will that work? Wouldn't the sod be loose and coming up since it has to be placed and removed repeatedly? And if it's running from first base to the left field, wouldn't that put the stands a considerable distance away from the pitch? I know the current NPSL team plays in a converted baseball stadium correct? Maybe someone can enlighten me on how good the views are? I'm genuinely curious.
Better than the small high school football stadium the nRG will be playing IMO. I grew up in rural, eastern Oklahoma. My graduating class had 75 people, and OUR high stadium is bigger than where the nRg will be playing. Plus, the BB stadium in Tulsa is in the heart of downtown, with multiple restaurants and clubs within walking distance.
I'd have to agree. And it's only natural, since the Tulsa Drillers are putting the team together. The team obviously knows how to get butts in the seats. They've been in the 5k range throughout the 2010s, and averaged 5,700 this past season. It's just a matter of applying that to soccer, and getting people who know soccer for the managerial side.
LOL He's no where to be found. Anyway Andrew Haines who owns the St.Louis Ambush of the MISL and Tony Glavin are hooking up and trying to get approved for a USL Pro soccer team for 2015. One more note to add, a St.Louis landowner is trying get a soccer or a football stadium build in the Northside of St. Louis. http://fox2now.com/2013/12/18/northside-redevelopment-project-to-begin-in-june/
Wow cool! I remember Tony Glavin when he played for the Steamers. Back to Tulsa, do you know who is involved with their ownership group?
Looks like it's the owners of the minor league baseball team, The Drillers and Prodigal, llc, the same folks who are bring you YOUR OKC nRg!
It would be retarded if they brought back the Roughnecks name. How many times will they try to revive it? The Roughnecks of the 70s and 80s were a legacy of their own. Lets not keep dragging it through the mud.
I highly doubt that Tulsa soccer fans want the Roughnecks trademark to be associated with D3 soccer, but it is up to them to decide
I understand why some people may not want the revival of the Roughnecks name and maybe they are right to a point. Still , in my opinion its very possible that if it weren't for them, these guys will probably never have existed. I believe most Under 35's don't realize the the legacy the NASL brought and the impact it had on the sport in the USA and that is kind of heartbreaking. At least for me who lived to see those halcyon NASL days.....
I have to say that's a pretty smart move... Doesn't Prodigal own the rights to the "Roughnecks" name?
Yes I would. I supported the Quakes when they played in the WSA from 1985-1988, the SF Bay Blackhawks of the APSL from 1989-1993 and even that horrid name, the SJ Clash from 1996-99.
But why not if its the only game in town? Just because its 3rd division? Orlando is/was D3 and they will be in MLS soon. Same for Sacramento who keep making noise about MLS and they haven't even played one game in USL yet. If anything I think all soccer fans should get behind the Tulsa franchise regardless of the nickname or level they play in. I'm sure if and when they get established, people will come out sooner or later.
