"If construction is 100% approved the new MLS Expansion team would begin to play in St. Louis in 2020." Surely this is a case of condensing several pieces of information. That St Louis is this close to being a done deal is news to me.
"We're adding someone who has won at every level, including the very highest levels, and has done so in a way that is consistent with our values," Rodriguez said. I've seen this "consistent with our values" statement before. What, exactly, is he talking about?
First issue is that there is nothing in the article that really explains why it is an outrageous contract. Second, his new weekly wage in Chicago is roughly equivalent to Michael Carrick's reported weekly wage at Manchester United (and while Mourinho may rate him above Schweinsteiger, I believe that the German is probably the better player). Lastly, his wages in Chicago are roughly 36% of what he was supposedly making at Man U. Maybe he is going to come over and prove he is old and washed up and can't hang. But the money that Chicago is paying him is hardly outrageous compared to what "top level" teams are paying to bit role players.
Just watched highlights of Atlanta's burn vs Chicago. Great action, but the weak commentators take away from the experience. It seemed like they had 3 different crews......all A few weeks in 2017 and MLS has some major issues to deal with: very poor officiating, commentators (especially the announcers from Atlanta game) AND the diving!!!!!! You don't open business with unresolved issues.
Thanks to all fans, the whole staff and my teammates of @ManUtd! I will never forget my time with the club, but now it’s time for a change! pic.twitter.com/zYn2o5Cjsk— Bastian Schweinsteiger (@BSchweinsteiger) March 21, 2017
Welcome to Big Soccer! Announcers for the Atlanta vs Chicago match were young bilingual guys working the English language SAP track. Yes, they suck! But worthy of a little slack. At least there IS an English language option on the Spanish Speaking Network Univision Deportes. Yes, the Officiating is lacking. Most of us here have known that now for going on 22 seasons. As for diving....you get that when the league is able to sign very talented Latin players. It's a cultural adjustment that they have not made yet. Keep watching.....
These clowns in the European media don't get it if MLS becomes a top 10 league in the world the league will be able to give many European stars "outrageous" sums of money on a consistent basis without skipping a beat. Moreover, if MLS was America's number one pro league in America many of the best teams around the world couldn't compete with type of money like the NFL makes. In my opinion, MLS is the only soccer league in the world to potentially rock the European football apple cart.

Just tossing it out there: Craig Waibel He's currently RSL's general manager, but there's no reason to rule out him taking the reins of the club as head coach. Waibel joined RSL in 2014 as an assistant coach – after Cassar was already the head coach – and Waibel then worked his way up to the front office. Odd. I didn't realize assistant coaches' goals were to work their way up to the front office. I thought that's just were they ended up before being let go.
