Hey, some of this may be old news... bear with me here... https://www.forbes.com/sites/demetr...fc-kits-2018-inaugural-season-youtube-tv-mls/ Minnesota apparently did something better than LAFC. http://www.sportspromedia.com/news/post-consumer-brands-mls-deal https://www.bizjournals.com/twincit...ville-based-post-becomes-official-cereal.html Personal question/opinion, has MLS coming to Minnesota brought in some big companies to MLS? Target, Post? While some may question why a team gets chosen for expansion, a team like Minnesota helps bring in some big sponsors to the league even if they didn't launch with the best team on the field. http://torontosun.com/sports/soccer...ampions-league-with-far-different-mentalities https://kxan.com/2018/02/26/we-just-cant-wait-plans-for-united-soccer-league-team-no-longer-on-hold/ http://www.statesman.com/sports/soc...occer-league-for-2019/mcTHfbFmheJCxKdkpczl4L/ USL Austin can't wait any longer. https://www.legalsportsreport.com/18691/mlb-sportsbook/ MLS co owner of a sportsbook? I remember watching a MLS video where he got torn to pieces by the other analysts. And in this article he either wasn't paying attention to Seattle's preseason and everything they have been saying or is just dumb. Schmetzer and Lagerway have been saying all preseason they were planning on playing Morris up top rather than on the wing, they they saw Morris as a #9 going forward. Warshaw completely ignored all of that talk in his analysis. But, to be fair, Matt Doyle did the same when he was talking about formations teams have been playing in preseason, he completely ignored the Sounders playing a diamond 4-4-2 when that was the whole topic of the conversation, teams diversifying their formations. https://www.dirtysouthsoccer.com/2018/2/27/17053332/atlanta-united-prospects-recap-february-27th They do have an exciting academy and youth players... https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...red-jonathan-campbell-season-kickoff-luncheon To add insult to injury... I didn't know Post was HQ'd in Minnesota and I've lived here since 1986...usually when you think "cereal" and "Minnesota" you think General Mills... That being said, I'd say yes, even if it was just Target. I'm sure most of the other 16 Fortune 500 companies headquartered here in the state are involved to a lesser extent, even if it's just a nice luxury box at TCF / Allianz Field. I do know my company was a mover behind the scenes in getting Allianz Field over the line. Although...the thought of having "SPAM" as a kit sponsor is...interesting.
This is something that my friend I were talking about recently. The longest drive between two first division pro clubs in Netherlands was similar to the distance between DC and Philly. That's 2.5 hours each way ... similar to Soloman's drive to the Sounders at the time. Leaving home to be a pro in other countries in not like the US. Germany is the size of east texas. Portugal and Spain combined are still a little less than the size of Texas. The entire UK (Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Isles) is a little less than the size of Colorado. As much as we want to have similar soccer culture, youth set - up, etc as European teams, the US is just so much bigger. Even with the fastest mode of transportation, it still takes half a days worth of travel. A kid going from the Dutch/German border to Ajax is so much easier than a kid going from Arizona or St George to Salt Lake City as it is so much farther and different. If that same kid wants to go to LA or NY or Seattle or Atlanta for their academies because they are good ... it's even more different. The West Coast / West of the US in March could have you going from rainy, wet, and mild in the PNW to beautiful in LA, to dry heat in Arizona, to snow and altitude in Denver with a lot in between. That's like a third of the country with drastic changes in conditions. You go to England and the difference is "well it's cold, windy, and rainy" to "well it's just cold".

I'd love to see them do MLS like they did these back in the day! They put them on the back of the boxes.
If you had the keys to Doc Brown's DeLorean and brought that team to the present, they'd win 110 games... (A starting rotation of Koufax, Drysdale, Marichal and Roberts...oof...maybe 110 is too low)
In addition to looking to Europe, we can learn a lot from Brazil, which has a similar geography that made national competitions prohibitive until the 50s. They made due with hugely popular and fiercely contested state-wide league championships up till then. It would be great to see an open cup type tournament here in CA.
As American soccer goes we already do have State tournaments. At the U-19 level that is at least. It is called Varsity High School soccer and what team wins State that season. We don't produce players like Brasil but us Americans we have the State tournaments thing in common.
Good point; the HS / college system does sort of provide that. Just not to the intensity of Brazil's (yet).
So, I may be the only one, but Post actually did what I was hoping they would do. They put MLS cards on the back of their boxes. I was able to pick up three different boxes at the grocery store. I have not been able to find out how many there are yet. So far at least 12 different. I suspect there are probably about 40?
