There is more substantive discussion in this article than I would have expected. The article kind of makes it sound like the coaching staff is already planning how they would coach on the NT, or perhaps advertising how they would coach as a means of campaigning for the job.
Another one bites the dust. The Vancouver Whitecaps have announced they have fired head coach Carl Robinson. Academy technical director Craig Dalrymple will lead the team in the interim. #VWFC #MLS— Franco Panizo (@FrancoPanizo) September 25, 2018
I expect better from this outlet, though some of this might come down to a demand for news content rather than a valid issue. "We need an emotive piece about the US scene. What have we got?" Not to downplay the actual problems we've seen, though. I just wouldn't describe the scope of MLS issues on this front in accordance with the article. Not Fake News, but more like Make News, as it were.
Pretty strange for mls clubs to fire coaches this late in the season. LA and now Vancouver, both of which are still in the playoff hunt. Seems that perhaps this is signaling a change in mentality amongst ownership: the playoffs are REALLY important, and we'll make drastic changes to try to get there.
Tricky headline word choice there. "In the running to lead" can easily be ingested as "In the lead to run." Reads like quality resume writing.
The 7th and 8th place teams in the west fired their coaches while still having a realistic chance of making the playoffs. Unless they "lost the locker room", I don't know how much a new coach improves things. The problem is that they equate MLS Ultras to the European Ultras. There are a few subgroups of SGs that try to emulate Euro Ultras, but a lot of that has been pushed away by teams and SGs policing each other.
Easy win for the 'Caps here, simply because we would all like to encounter the surname 'Dalyrimple' more regularly in public life, for its sheer Python-esque quality.
Hoping for Dead Cat Bounce, I suppose. That word seems to have conflicting definitions--is pageantry and noise 'Ultra,' or only intimidation? And then there's that dreaded word 'authenticity,' defined in such a way that MLS could not possibly have it.
