My nephew was at the game yesterday and texted me a few times during the match. He thought 1860 looked good for stretches but defending was a problem (which you can see in the highlights).
It will be interesting to see what they try. The team they currently have is destined to be relegated. The more offensive style to not really work (probably worth trying). I did not see the game but the team roster showed a 4-4-2 diamond--did they play the diamond against Freiburg (because it appeared to fail).
Reinforcements on the way with Aycicek, Mölders, and Beister joining for the Rückrunde. Defence is an area which needs work. But I think a youngster from the academy, Felix Udoukhai can be promoted and help out. And despite interest from BL clubs for Richie Neudecker, good to see Richie Neudecker stay with the club.
For defence we've got Sukalo and Mauersberger. All in all a good end to the winter break, after it started with Ismaik's refusal to pay and all the uncertainty about the club around christmas. Gotta say, I'm impressed by Kreuzer's job so far, on paper the squad was strengthened a lot. Ofc, it has to translate well on the pitch. First game against FCN is a hard one, let's hope for the best. Will be a great atmosphere in the stadium, with 40k+ spectators
How do you call it when you've got more goals than the opponent at full time... Oh, yeah, a win. It's been so long, I totally forgot. Anyhow, after wasting a 2-0 lead, we won 3-2 against Ddorf today. Pos 16 now.
Before the two game win streak I was going to post that it really looked like this team would be relegated. I am glad I did not. 1860 has gotten a bit lucky (they played well against Fortuna but the defense was awful in giving up two goals) but I think beating 1.FCK will help build confidence. Ortega has been playing decently but 1.FCK just missed their chances. I think 1860 has been a bit unlucky a few times this year so they deserved to steal 3 pts at some time (great header by Bülow and then a pretty organized defense). They will need to get some points in March but other than at Leipzig they will definitely have their chances.
Another win sees us out of the relegation zone for the 1st time since Matchday 3. All three goals were direct results of set pieces.
So, a loss yesterday. A few weeks ago, I wouldn't even mention it, but after 3 Ws you could feel that the squad had confidence. Still, a loss against RB is not too shocking. Just hope for 2 things: sign Mölders permanently and win the rest of the games In related news, Kurz was fired by Fortuna. With Funkel, another Ex-Lion will take the helm.
And Funkel's team wins 4-3 in his first game... that and our 1-1 yesterday means we are 16th again. After the lead we just did nothing. With a performance like that it'll be hard in the remaining games.
Lost 3-1 against Karlsruhe today. Were in the lead until Karlsruhe score 3 times in under 7 minutes. Horrible game, was dreadful to watch. 10 out of the 12 goals we scored were after set pieces.
