What do you guys think of these two big deals (the rest were sort of salary dumps/rental deals, but these were legit hockey deals) Chris Stewart Kevin Shattenkirk 2nd round pick for Erik Johnson Jay McClement 1st round pick and the newest one that boggles my mind James Neal Matt Niskanen for Alex Goligoski
I hope Peter is a better EU parlament member than hockey forecaster. The Avs were about as close to winning the Stanley cup this year as the Manitoba Moose. There defense might have made the Moose squad worse had they traded.
Think the Pens won away with that deal. Neal is a young guy who can score 30 plus goals being with Crosby or Malkin and Niskanen I always liked. Not that Goligoski is bad, good pp dman which is somethign the Pens could afford to lose with the likes of Martin and Letang.
I think Goligoski is fairly average. Niskanen isn't great, but he's not that far off of Goligoski. Neal is the best player in the deal and looks like a future star. My verdict is a clear victory for the Penguins, but a clear wait and see on the Avs-Blues. That can only be judged in five years I think. It could make one team look terrible, or it could be relatively even.
