As I recall, the Mormon Church was largely behind Prop 8, and put on a concerted effort in the black churches to influence the vote. If this is wrong, people may freely correct me, but was what I remembered. I just cannot look it up at the moment.
I can verify, the "Mormon" Church mobilized its members and donated to support Prop 8. I know a lot of people who were already on the fence call it quits on the religion at that time.
Yes, the Mormons were #1 behind this, and I made sure every LDS missionary who came to my door got an earful about it, with the Catholic Church also very guilty. On yet another tangent, I watched an interesting documentary "Believer" on the plane a few weeks ago about the lead singer of Imagine Dragons, Dan Reynolds, a Mormon who has "converted" to advocating for the Mormon church to evolve on its views about gays. There were parts of the documentary that made me just want to scream at Dan Reynolds, but I nonetheless appreciate his efforts.
I hope attitudes have changed. But don't forget, female homosexuality is not as offensive or threatening to many as male homosexuality is. Even Houston elected a lesbian mayor. Gay males strike more homophobia into people than lesbians do. Traditionally, the popular notion was lesbians can be "cured" of their situation by effectively being raped, whereas gay guys should just be beat up and killed because they are reprobates with no hope of salvation. Hollywood will still happily portrays lesbians as either serial killers or sexually confused, the latter feeding in to the "if they only had sex with a man they would be cured mentality", but gay males will inevitably die unhappy deaths unless they are drag queens existing to entertain straight people (and trans people will not only die, they will suffer brutal deaths). I keep hoping I can go to a Hollywood drama about a gay guy that has a happy ending, but I know going in to the movie I will be disappointed.

Right wing porn is weird. Oh my god. The protester has a fake @PeteButtigieg whipping Jesus on a cross. I have no words. pic.twitter.com/VxeqXbfAIs— Marcus J. DiPaola (@marcusdipaola) April 17, 2019
'Nutter, I didn't say Buttigieg would lose to Trump. I said the GOP would win the election. I did say that, so we'll have to disagree. Actually, I said "they" (the GOP) would win. I'm not sure why you think matters who the POTUS is, so long as the GOP can continue to stack the Supremes and conservatives can exercise their newfound freedom to dehumanize POCs- the drunkard is out of the bottle and Trump isn't really necessary for this to continue. That's a half-empty glass, or a 7/8 empty glass, or a glass with one drop of whatever in it. Do you read your posts? Parts of the MSM are accurately reporting Trump's ********ery. Parts. Please tell me what you find encouraging about that. Alabama's House just passed a measure forcing the Pledge on folks. that's not going away just because a different redneck is in the WH.
You sound like me with them coming to my door when I was an early teen, still unable to plan for a ministry gig because of the color of my skin. They were older than I, but had not thought about it. It's not like I was ever gonna become a Mormon, but still, I thought it unconscionable of them to suggest that they could bring me closer to Christ, or to ask me to join a church I couldn't hope to lead. I actually told them what homes on the street were owned by Black folks, just in case they wanted to say, "Hey, we're working on it...". And I wished them luck.
I find it odd that God seems to give divine revelations to change something only after people rise up in protest against some abominable injustice but never before they do. It's as if God cannot realize how unjust something is until people protest it!
Even then, it wasn't a slam dunk, like "Whoa, this is still here? We need to get rid of this crap ASAP". It was heavily debated. In 1978.
The football team at my alma mater went from being a top 20 team to, well, not so good because of protests against the policy in advance of a Wyoming-BYU game.
God is still vengeful. And he/she is on the Twitter. If you think the picture of the black hole is cool, wait till next week, when you get to photograph it from the inside.— God (@TheTweetOfGod) April 10, 2019
That was damn interesting. I wonder if the 50th anniversary will be noted during tjis upcoming season, the 150th in college football history.
I thought that was a whiffleball picture. A Mormon missionary pitching, Cardinal Fang catching, and Jesus swinging a cross from the batters box.
The only saving grace to Barr being so corrupt is that he’s reasonably public about it. People can make an informed decision about the importance of a corrupt attorney general.— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) April 17, 2019 The Dilanian Window tomorrow is 9:30-11:00.That’s the time period between when the media gobbles up Barr’s lies like a sleeve of thin mints and when they realize they’ve been played. pic.twitter.com/qlRbnrpumi— The Hoarse Whisperer (@TheRealHoarse) April 18, 2019 Remember how much everyone flipped out about the Bill Clinton-Loretta Lynch meeting on the tarmac? https://t.co/v0LIZ8IrRs— Matt Fuller (@MEPFuller) April 17, 2019
Well, at least one really good thing about Mayor Pete being elected Prez is that he won't have any idiot offspring in jobs they where they not only aren't remotely qualified for, but aren't even on the same planet. Jared is going to bring peace to the Middle East when none of the countless other way more qualified people could do it over the past 70 years? GTFO!
The first Barr memo worked in terms of getting headlines. But if they literally run the same play again - but more boldly - and it works, then something is absolutely broken in our media.
