Werder Bremen have signed an American youngster named Trevor Zwetsloot. He will join the U19 team first. http://websites.sportstg.com/club_i...ID=99813&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=56920868
Never heard of this kid, but after doing some research, here's the info I found. CB or #6. Late '99 birthday, played at IMG Academy. Eligible for USA, Netherlands and New Zealand (his dad seems to be from New Zealand). Big kid (listed at 6'2 over a year ago), decent anticipation and tackling skills defensively, physical, okay passer. Seems a little slow, but he's also pretty tall and strong, so thats not unexpected.
Was on an IMG roster with some other YNT types that played the current U17s last year. http://www.sylsoccer.com/news_article/show/732251?referrer_id=2599270
He looks to play forward consistently, rather than just play the safe square or backwards pass. I like that.
He's played 90 the last three matches after not even being in the squad the first five, so maybe he had an injury. All his starts have been at DM.
This article from Bremen paper Weser Kurier states that Trevor is "currently injured." No idea when he can return to training. According to Transfermarkt, the last time he played for the U-19s was Oct. 29th. https://www.weser-kurier.de/sport_artikel,-der-neue-markt-_arid,1676702.html
Trevor started on the bench today, in DFB Junioren Pokal, looked like he would only get a cameo appearance right at the end of the match - which ended going into ET (30 min) - Looks like he scored 2 PK's in the shootout which Bremen U19 finally lost 14 to 13, losing the match to Kaiserslautern U19 1 - 0 (after pk's)
Trevor played the 2nd half as Bremen U19 battled to a 2 - 2 home draw against visitor Wolfsburg U19 in A Junioren Bundesliga (Nord/Nordost)
according to transfermarkt will move to Bremen II in the Summer. based on performances they are headed to 4th division.
Is this the same guy that the kiwi's are saying is theirs? Kicker has him as having German and American citizenship. Lots of young Americans in or around the Bundesliga these days. https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/categ.../topics/trevor-zwetsloot-werder-bremen/page/4
Yeah, at one point he spent time with a club in New Zealand called East Coast Bays. He then spent a year at IMG Academy in Bradenton before heading to Werder Bremen. Are we even 100% sure he's American? He will age out of the U19 league and is under contract for one more season per T'markt, so a move to the reserve team roster is inevitable.
USSDA says he is Dutch-American. http://imga.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=1400542&player=38965613

Has committed himself to New Zealand. "Zwetsloot required Fifa clearance in order to play for New Zealand as he was born in the Netherlands to Dutch and American parents, and only lived here from the ages of two to 15 before landing a place in the IMG Academy in the United States." I didn’t get the joke, but I had to google that song. Did we ever figure out if this kid is really a yank?
