    Hello all,
I started this thread looking for help form those who have purchased tickets to the Azores from CA. Apparently this process has been hectic and extremely expensive with SATA basically creating a monopoly and charging ridiculous prices on flights. Does anybody have any recommendations on airlines and such? Thanks again

    Try Kayak.com

Your best bet is to find a cheap flight to the east coast from San Fran/Oakland to let's say New Jersey, Boston, New York or Toronto Canada and then catch a sata flight or an Air transat flight from Toronto.

    Agreed

Flights from Boston tend to be cheaper than Toronto flights. Toronto is second best choice.

In the summer months there's what's colloquially (and sometimes formally) known as "The Azores Express" -- a weekly non-stop flight from Oakland to Terceida (and back) for a reasonable price worth checking out. It's typically flown on a known carrier under a charter name.
