I'm planning an open ended trip to South America ... probably around 3 months. Specifically the Southern half of the continent excluding countries like Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil.

My primary focus in Chile and Argentina but I am considering forays into Peru, Paraguay and Uruguay. The general idea is to fly into Lima Peru and go down the West coast of the continent seeing the Chilean Andes, Chilean wine regions and all the way down to Patagonia and back up into Argentina and probably wrapping up in Uruguay and flying out from Montevideo.

It's my first time South of the Equator so I'm excited. I speak fluent Spanish so I expect to be able to manage wandering off the beaten path. Any suggestions from people that have visited these countries? I also plan on attending football matches along the way especially in Santiago and Buenos Aires so football related tips are helpful too.
