FYI...They don't sell alcholic beverages at the Amsterdam Arena, like most of the european stadiums..so fill up before or bring a flask because it'll be a cold one.
It's shouldn't get that cold, the stadium has a retractable roof. The Arena uses a debit card system to purchase food and drink. Purchase the cards at vending machines inside the stadium. Most all the food is McDonalds.
I have a co-worker who just came back from there and she said it was freezing. Also, I went to see Ecuador vs Holland there 4 years ago and i remember it being super cold. It was like an icebox. It was snowing and it felt like we were in the frozen section of Giant. So thats why i suggest to pre party at a bar or w/ a flask on your way up to the stadium..
Special thanks to the Sam's Army US National Team Supporters for posting on their website about the US/AO/Sam's Army Supporters Pre-Game Bar: EURO PUB in Dam Square Dam 5 7 1012 JS Amsterdam, Netherlands Also, Sam's Army has named Dream Tickets USA as its official ticket and tour provider for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa! http://www.sams-army.com/
Whereas they may not sell beer at the Amsterdam arena, they do in other European stadia. Hell, they were serving liters of beer at the Denmark friendly! And it looks like it may be similar weather to the Denmark match too. It should clear up for Wednesday and be in the low 40s but the wind might be a killer.
Maybe they don't sell beer there simply because the lines get too long. Once the stadium started to fill up in Århus, I couldn't get another beer.
For all the US Supporters meeting at EURO PUB before the game, what time are you planning on getting there? I was told on a tripadviser forum to give about an hour and fifteen from Dam Square to Amsterdam ArenA. Got an recommendation to go to the stadium early and check out the supporters club, its call the F-SIDE , beers are real cheap and you can see the pratice pitch and staduim great photos. I'm not sure if we want to give ourselves enough time before the game to have a beer or two there also.
I've got two extra tickets to the match. You'd be sitting next to me and my friend, another USA fan. Bought my tickets through US Soccer so I assume I'll be somewhere in the fan section. PM or e-mail if you're interested. Sorry if this isn't the best possible place for this info.
By the way, anyone going to be in AMS through Saturday who has a hotel room with extra space on Saturday night?
Some last minute hotel deals: The five star NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky has a 150 Euro rate. It's a bit of a splurge but it's next to the Euro Pub and literally in the center of the city. On a previous stay a few years ago I spotted Sandra Bullock in the lobby. The four star Golden Tulip Amsterdam Centre has 110 euro rate, and the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel has a 100 Euro rate. Both are very near Dam Square, and can be booked at www.booking.com
FYI: The USMNT fan park kickaround at Museumplein (trams 3/5/12/16/24) has been moved to 1PM to get the best possible weather. Feel free to come join in or just hang out.
Current forecast: 60% chance of sun, 10% chance of precipitation, temperature of 5-8 degrees during the day.
