I see Zaniolo as a CM/CAM in all honesty. Wasn't a big fan of him playing RW. This cat plays out wide mainly, even though that video made him look a central player.

It is if you want him running around clearing long balls outside of the box. He is not a big enough upgrade on Mirante in my opinion, so I don’t see the logic in spending money on him. We should take full advantage of Savorani and give him great prospects to work with instead of 30+ yrs old that aren’t going to improve.

The latest reports say that Petrachi will be official on July 1st. On the other hand, Fonseca has asked the club not to sell anyone before the start of summer camp on the 27th of this month.
I'd be ok with Diawara on loan with option. Still very young but he hasn't been able to find any playing time in 2 years
Diawara is great, one of the best talents in his position. I always envied Napoli for owning him and never thought they would be willing to sell him to us for something reasonable. The reasons behind his lack of playing time are obvious. In his first 2 seasons he had Jorginho ahead of him, Sarri was never going to bench Jorginho other than the occasional rest or injury. This season Ancelotti changed the formation to 4-4-2 and Diawara had no place in that set up. He is still 21 which is years away from his prime, has performed in a lot of high profile games and fits Fonseca’s style perfectly. Other than Bennacer (who potentially can play with him) I can’t think of a better target, Roma should be all over him.
I don't disagree with anything however, too many people (not saying you) are ready give up on Gerson who is exactly 2 months older. Gerson showed he can play CM and RW last year. Football fans are all too willing to chase 'the next great thing' and completely overlook who they already have. After watching Gerson last year at Fior. I'm convinced he can play at this level. For me I'd start building my MF of the future with; Zaniolo, Pellegrini, Gerson and Riccardi (who needs a good loan spot)
If Gerson had Diawara's skill-set, I'd say give him a shot. But he doesn't. Completely different players, not to mention Diawara's just flat-out better.

Yea, I know we've talked about this but, IMO, I think the way the game is going you are going to see less and less of the defined rolls, especially in the MF. IMO, the game is moving to CM that are; athletic, can press, are good passers and can read the game. I just think the days of being purely a DM, etc are coming to an end. You better be able to do all things to a reasonable level in the modern game. Heck, I saw that Marquinhos played DM for PSG a few times and Weigl played DM and CB this year.
