Okay saw them lose to Lyon the other day, they played well, entertained me, and have those very cool uniforms.

The stadium sounded pretty good, so now its time to start an Action Thread.

They lost that game to Lyon 0-2 before 31,000. I had no idea their stadium was so large.

    Arbitre : M.Veissière
But pour Lyon : Essien (51’), Malouda (90’)
    31.089 spectateurs
    Avertissement à Toulouse : Moreira (36’)
    Acertissements à Lyon : Caçapa (35’), Reveillère (56’)

Toulouse : Revault – Ebondo, Aubey, Arribagé, Bedimo – Sirieix (Giresse 72’), Taïder, Emana, Dalmat – Suarez (Dieuze 74’), Moreira.

Lyon : Coupet – Cris, Caçapa, Reveillère, Abidal (Diatta 46’) – Essien, Diarra, Juninho – Frau (Nilmar 78’), Govou, Wiltord (Malouda 71’).

Daniel Moriera (former Lens Striker) was fantastic, but was close on a couple of shots, plus Coupet was great in goal for Lyon.

It certainly doesn't look that big on tv. I think it seats more than 31,000 actually but I think in France they only let you sell so many seats due to security reasons like no standing room only. http://www.worldstadiums.com/europe/countries/france/midi_pyrenees.shtml says the offical capacity is 36,369. They hosted games from the '98 World Cup there and I think by FIFA regulations you have to have at least 30,000 seats to host a World Cup match. I'm not sure how many the stadium seated before it was renovated to be able to host World Cup '98.

It looked pretty big to me, two decks, full circle - I can see 36,000. I forgot they used it in '98.

We only got as far south as St. Etienne.

Bordeaux's attendence has been slipping the past few seasons. I see they only got 24,000 for a game versus their biggest rivals. The fans are really upset the way the team has been run so they're not showing up like they used to.

"My boy Moreira" :D I like that.

Kudos to panic for making a Toulouse thread!! With more pictures to enjoy their great uniform. The away kit is pretty good too. Last year it was black and gray in the same pattern as the first kit, while this year they have this very light pink/violet shirt which looks white from a distance. Considering Toulouse is known as "la ville rose," the significance of the second kit makes it that much cooler in my book.

There were on TV this week against Lyon, played a courageous game but lost. Loved the uniform, and the crowd was very enthusiastic. Moriera was all over the place and really battled hard. So if I had to pick a French team it would be Toulouse right now.

Not sure why I researched this but ...

The indian face on those flags is the "logo" for the "indian" supporters group of the TFC ...
I guess the crossed things are just for support so that the logo is clearly visible from the other side.
TFC has like half-a-dozen supporters group that follow the team.

Where did the club get the money for Moreira and Dalmat?

that's a good question especially for Moreira.

They sold a lot of players but mostly to non-ligue 1 teams. So, they did not get much out of the sales of players.

They got Moreira for 4-5 millions euros. Dalmat is on loan from Inter. Now the wages on those 2 guys must be pretty substantial.

Luckily they are doing ok this year, so it looks like the investement is pretty good.

One of my buddies says that Moriera was a Bosman, nice bit of work there.

Toulouse does not like to divulge transfer fees and certainly not salaries (like everybody else).
I got the euro amount by browsing the TFC supporter forum so I assume it's a good guess.
I am pretty sure he had one year left at Lens. He signed for 4 years at TFC btw.
The fee might have been smaller but the wages must be pretty high (better than what he would have had at RCL with the deal they offered him).

Thanks for the research. Seems like a coup for them to get this guy. Of course he needs to score a few more goals and help them get into Europe to be worth the money.

When were they in the 2nd division?

They were promoted in the 2002-03 season most recently. They have spent a bit of time going up and down in recent years. Toulouse is known more as a rugby town, and soccer isnt as popular. That being said, from what I heard, the team has new, motivated ownership/leadership this year which explains the Moreira and Dalmat moves.
