For me it is very difficult to name the top ten best passers as I believe that judgement on some players' greatness in this aspect might be heavily influenced by their team's system. For example it is very easy to end up with a list that has more Barcelona players as their system relies on passing compared to other teams that don't employ similar systems. This is how I see it, especially when it comes to short passing. For long passes I think one of the players who gets underrated because of reasons we all know is Beckham. Imo his long passes were one of the best in terms of accuracy and pace. I remember one of his assist for Zidane which was just mind blowing. Others that I admired over the years include Pirlo, Scholes, Xabi Alonso, Gerrard, and Maradona off course.
he is not ... Beckham was among the TOP specialists in long pass and crossing (Scholes was good and that it)
agree ... Riquleme was the closest Maradona-esque in vision and in passing (long short thruball flip over, rabona ....)
https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blog...ever-quotes-about-lionel-messi-110003787.html Here are some great quotes.
yeah compared to CR7 he has been great and better ... is that new? or should we say those quotes are valid : BAR-WC, or only BARCA
Wrong fact: 1- Argentina advanced to SF thanks to Higuain goal 2- Argentina advanced to Final thanks to Romero heroism 3- Ironically the so called "struggling side" won the WC winner team 4-2 without Messi?
That has got what to with this thread? Seriously why are you doing that here? You want to start a messi bitchfest? Some of those quotes are so embarrassing as well. You act like I'm a maradona fanboy but I'd be embarrassed to write anything as soppy as some of those quotes.
Ok pull out your tampon and calm down. You have seen 25 full games of Maradona tops, keep dreaming boy. If you don't like the quotes fine but dont act like I typed them up.
Well that statement is an oxymoron, bitching at someone to pull out a tampon, and then asking them to calm down. Guess you lost control of your emotions. Yep, definitely lost control of your emotions now, sorry about that. Also just find it ironic you think those are "great" quotes, despite criticising me and others for apparently romanticizing about maradona, well ive never engaged in self indulgent sentimentality over maradona anywhere near as much as most of those quotes do over messi. So I guess it just highlights your double standards. Why don't you answer the question of what a random list of quotes about messi has to with a thread about the passing? I read it and just one person mentioned his passing.
It's not about who likes whom ... ( and we should not care much off as people are naturally biased) Messi failed to prove his "greatness" in Argentina (or outside Barca shirt) = not anyone fault ... but himself So it's just because I (or someone) say that "truth" and we will be LABELED as "dislike Messi"?
you should say FACT: won WC golden ball with controversy ... (the first ever) and the same team without Messi revenged sweetly with 4-2 win a month later Ironically the FACT: 1- the struggling team had Messi Maesherano Romero Rojo and Di maria in the top20 best players of that WC out of hundreds players? 2- the srtuggling team was ranked #2, #3 in the world and off the 32 teams at WC? 3- Argentina got to FINAL had not much to do with messi ... sadly Please get more info
Messi won the golden ball (best player of the tournament award) for bringing a struggling Argentina to the 2014 World Cup Final
@SirWellingtonSilva Can't remember where you asked about Hoddle's passing now but apart from what was on the video I showed, or the games I mentioned might be worth checking on Youtube for his passes (mainly highlights but the full 1981 FA Cup Final replay for example) I also thought of these: Tottenham - Feyenoord 1983 (That's been discussed on the forum, but not sure I mentioned it in my post) (assist near the end of the game) (assist with a cross, but also a stabbed pass down the wing - not really with backspin like you mentioned but probably the same sort of pass - he also played a similar one in the 1981 FA Cup Final replay when he played Archibald in in the build-up to one of the goals). The others I recommended are just as good or better (IIRC Bayern Munich in Europe - the year Tottenham beat them, the Ajax game from 1981/82 which includes a pass I put on my video anyway, Arsenal 1981, Liverpool 1982 Milk Cup Final, maybe some others...).
Have seen another few videos of that era and I'd vouch to say he was one of the better passers of the ball that my country has had. Saw this at the ManUnited draft thread: " Bobby Robson was ON Muhren - "I cannot think of anyone I would rate higher as a professional than Arnold," he gushed. "No one works harder, and when the match is over, he won't go out drinking. He goes to bed." That dedication and sobriety was evident on the pitch where his ability to find team-mates was a sight to behold. "He could hit a ten pound note from 50 yards," joked Robson. Born in Volendam, Arnold Muhren started his professional soccer career with local club FC Volendam before he moved on to Ajax Amsterdam in 1971. After a brief stay at FC Twente, Muhren was eventually introduced to English football by Ipswich Town manager Bobby Robson who signed him for an estimated transfer fee of £150,000 in 1978. Accompanied by former FC Twente team mate Frans Thyssen the following year, Arnold Muhren emerged as one of the most important players in the immensly talented Portman Road side who went on to win the 1981 UEFA Cup. Impressed by his positioning and reading of the game, Ron Atkinson eventually brought Arnold Muhren to Manchester United in the summer of 1982. The Dutch midfield maestro made his Manchester United debut in a 3–0 win at home to Birmingham City in August 1982 and he proceeded to help the club win the FA Cup the following year. Muhren played a total of 70 matches for Manchester United between 1982 and 1985, scoring 13 goals in the process. The gifted playmaker returned to Holland in 1985 and finished his brilliant footballing career at his former club Ajax Amsterdam where he went on to win the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987. A Dutch international, Arnold Muhren made 23 appearances for his country after making his full debut in a 4–0 victory against Tunisia in 1978. Quote Arnie Muhren. “Manchester City wanted me too and they were prepared to pay much more than United, but hey…when a club like Man United wants you, what do you do?” This club was even bigger than I realized when i went there." Leonid Buriak was a great organizer of attacks, the master passes and strategic playmaker. His elegant style of play is very reminiscent of Michel Platini and Giancarlo Antognoni. A lot of goals Blokhin ( Dynamo Kiev 1970-80s ) scored through fast counterattacks and long pass from Buriak. Leonid Buriak was a great master of long assists, such as: Paul Scholes, Giancarlo Antognoni, Michel Platini, Michael Laudrup, Ronald Koeman, David Beckham, David Kipiani, Juan Roman Riquelme, Gheorghe Hagi, Roberto Carlos, Francesco Totti, Andrea Pirlo, etc.
