Who do you think are the top eight teams in the Americas right now?? (ha ha... its top 8 cuz I couldn't think of two more very good teams to make it a "Top 10"). Anyway...

    My ranking would be:
    1. River Plate (ARG)
    2. Sao Paulo (BRA)
    3. Chivas (MEX)
    4. Atletico Paranaense (BRA)
    5. Santos (BRA)
    6. Banfield (ARG) .. Not thaaattt good, but showed a good game vs River
    7. Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (ECU)
    8. Velez Sarsfield (ARG).. Didn't play in any international tournament this year, but are doing good in the Argentine league, and have already qualified for the Copa Sudamericana 2005 and Copa Libertadores 2006.

I believe the top 2 (River and Sao Paulo) are the best 2 without a doubt. Chivas is also pretty good, but numbers 4-8 aren't the best teams ever.. they're good, but not as good as River Plate and Sao Paulo.

Hmmmmm.. I don't think so. Are you talking about the same Boca that is 16th in the Argentine Championship?? The same Boca that shouldn't have made it to quarter finals of the Copa, but made it.. but turned out losing 4-0 to Chivas??? The same Boca that even their own fans don't support (only had 2,000 people at the stadium on Sunday vs. Quilmes)??? I say Boca=#6,852 :D

Almost 2 years later, who would you say are the top 8 now? Here is my list (in no specific order):

    River
    Boca
    Velez
Estudiantes (Haven't impressed me in the first few matches of the Clausura, but still have great players in the squad and won the Argentine league just months ago.)
    Sao Paulo
    Internacional
    Colo Colo
    Nacional (URU)

I wouldn't take out of the list LDU for its last result in el Campeonato Ecuatoriano. Defense sucked and got 4 scores in but they where able to make 3 and playing away. I think the team is finally coming together and will show against Colo Colo. I am very confident. Both Escalada and Salas scored. Salas is back!

And honestly, there is no specific order. they are just my best candidates right now.

That list was from a few years ago CG. His current list does have America. IMO, Chivas is a better Mexican team than them..

Hum, just wondering: are all Internacional fans imbeciles? Or only the ones who are in this thread?

Maybe they are mad because people keep putting São Paulo above them and not giving them much credit.

You guys still have a long way to reach São Paulo's fame and greatness. Sorry. Truth hurts sometimes.

América de Cali has never played the World Club Cup, and certainly they haven't played Barcelona (Spain) either.

I'm still wondering what River Plate has done recently to merit being in the top 5 let alone ahead of Boca as alot of people are putting them. The last time they won anything was in 03/04.

Let me explain something to you. I don't think you understand how things work.

Internacional IS THE NUMBER ONE untill the final minute of Libertadores finals, that only in the event Inter is not the champion once again. We are still the number one team in America. That's what it means to be champions.
