Today in #USOpenCup history...#OTD 2002: In front of a home crowd, @ColumbusCrewSC edge the #LAGalaxy 1-0 to win their 1st US Open Cup title. Freddy Garcia scored the lone goal in the 30th min. as #Crew96 became the 1st (and still the only) #Ohio club to win the tournament. pic.twitter.com/bNTlGrbNKx— TheCup.us (@usopencup) October 24, 2019 Happy anniversary, angels...
I was coming here to express my love of that day. Geeg and I truly became supporters on that cold night of winners.
Man what a flashback, look closely at those photos....it's the history of The Crew and US Soccer. Lamar, McBride, Mas, Warzycha, Cunningham, Martino, Clark, Dunseth, Cobi Jones, and Lalas.
This time two years, things we’re pretty bleak. On Oct. 26, 2017, #Crew96 silenced the noise. pic.twitter.com/SxCVB7IUOc— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) October 26, 2019
The thing I remember most about the Open Cup win was how disgusted LA washout losing to the Crew. They couldn't believe they didn't win. I think Lalas is still angry about that loss.
This is worth ten minutes of your time: https://www.wbur.org/onlyagame/2019/11/08/columbus-crew-mls-save-the-crew Not perfect, glosses over some important details, but actually pretty solid. I still have a hard time believing what happened. Those things just don't happen in the real world, right?
Why are these articles afraid to call Precourt what he actually is? He is not a hedge fund manager, he’s a trust fund baby with almost zero real world work experience. Why is it easier to lie about it than to tell the truth?
So you think they lied? Or maybe they just didn't get as deep into the details as you'd prefer. They also gave Clark Hunt more credit than he deserves, not mentioning Lamar at all. So, no, it's not perfect. But Jesus H Christ, not every imperfection in a story is evidence of lying. And the point of the story was not to talk about Anthony Precourt or Don Garber, or any other higher-up. It was a story about the fans.
Where's the lie? Anthony Precourt is a hedge fund manager by trade, he's worked for multiple investment houses before founding his own firm, and then moving into sports ownership. I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to be that he sill spends the majority of his working time in capital management and not running Two Oak Ventures. Just because you don't agree with a certain truth does not make it a lie.
The only money Precourt has managed since his brief stint with an actual firm is his own. This isn't conjecture, it's fact that was brought out during the #savethecrew movement. He is not a hedge fund manager and I have never seen evidence he even holds a license to manage securities. Calling him a hedge fund manager isn't just lazy, it's a complete lie. And since the article was not about him, why even include it?
Today is the 10 year anniversary of a brave group of Crew fans starting the Mormons, Hookers and Goats tour. (hint, I was not one of them unfortunately) @HardHatMike
This was the best crew game I've been to. Never doubted we could come back. And JPD really botched the call on the game winning goal. On this day in 2008...Marshall, Gaven, 2-1! #Crew96 pic.twitter.com/gdkxNoD9wD— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) November 13, 2019
Unless I'm missing something, Wikipedia says it was in April: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Columbus_Crew_season Indeed, I remember DVR'ing the one Crew game and watching the OSU tournament game.
Eleven years ago, from my social media memories: "just booked tickets for LA!!!!! CREW ARE GOING TO MLS CUP BABY!!!"
