How in the world Ajax failed to register a single goal after numerous chances is beyond me... oh well, let’s dwell on the positive.. So happy that there will be at least one Dutch team in the Champions League (hoping PSV will make it two tomorrow!) Kudos, job well done
Hit the goalpost twice and I think the crossbar twice as well, although I could be wrong about both accounts. This is how good Holland teams are, they will run wave after wave at you!!!!
As @Orange14 already mentioned Ajax makes the opponents goalie man of the match. Coming weekend it will be the Vitesse goalie that keeps a clean sheet
Nice to see Ajax back in the Champions League again. I'm not going to complain about keeping a clean sheet of the road. Huntelaar has been unlucky, but I expect that to change over time.
DeJong is nice to watch. Takes a few unnecessary risks but like his ability on the ball and his vision. Looks like a big career ahead of him, and based on my limited times watching him play I think he should go right into 1st XI for Oranje.
Group A: Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco, Brugge Group B: Barcelona, Tottenham, PSV Eindhoven, Inter Group C: Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli, Liverpool, Red Star Belgrade Group D: Lokomotiv Moscow, Porto, Schalke, Galatasaray Group E: Bayern Munich, Benfica, Ajax, AEK Athens Group F: Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk, Lyon, Hoffenheim Group G: Real Madrid, Roma, CSKA Moscow, Viktoria Plzen Group H: Juventus, Manchester United, Valencia, Young Boys
Can't complain. The group seems, at least on paper, passable. We can even try for the second place, but let's not get carried away. The minimum goal should be EL in the spring of '19. Two things worry me though - the coach's lack of experience at this level and the efficiency of our goalscorers.
I expect Ajax to win every match but I am frequently disappointed. Haven't seen Bayern play yet this season.
For what it's worth, 538 has Ajax at 10% to win, 31% to finish second and 33% to finish third. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/champions-league/?ex_cid=rrpromo
It looks like this team is being built to be dangerous on the counter rather than quick passing in the midfield. I'm not sure that this is a recipe for long term success as it's not the way the youth program at Ajax is structured. A 4-0 win is always welcome but it could have and should have been more commanding than that. I want to see quicker decision making in the MF rather than players dwelling on the ball. Some very sloppy play in the second half and a fusillade number of shots from Vitesse came in only to be parried away by Onana. With the exception of those called up for international duty the club has two weeks off before hosting Groningen. Player Ratings: Onana (8.5) - wanted the clean sheet and got it with some saves worthy of the best keepers Tagliafico (6) - sloppy defending at times and was not the outlet he had been in past games Blind (7) - fine match and some very nice passing out of the back de Ligt (8) - immovable force on the back line Mazraoui (7) - good match defensively but didn't have much chance at all to go up the pitch Schöne (7) - good in the holding position de Jong (7) - smooth game in his usual manner Ziyech (7) - nicely taken first goal but some of his passes were way too strong Neres (6) - very quiet and came off early as a precaution Huntelaar (7.5) - two well taken goals and some very nice runs that were narrowly off side Tadic (7.5) - strong match van de Beek (6) - unfortunate in the box with the ball Eiting (6) - decent enough Wöber (6.5) - on to play center back and did well Still two points behind PSV but an early season match with the league leaders in Eindhoven is on the schedule. We'll see what this club is made of at that point.
From your link: Their models gave Trump a better chance of winning then other sites, but they still had Trump losing
That's the difference between a projection and a prediction. A projection gives a range of outcomes and assigns probabilities. A prediction gives one outcome only. 538 never said Hillary was 100% to win, no more than they're saying that Ajax will get out of the group stage. They're just saying that the Ajax is more likely than not to finish second or third.
