Forward trophy "first chance to win" for each track:
    Starting from TOR:
NYC - Win from TOR on 6/20
ORL - Wins from NYR on 7/18

    Starting from SKC:
NYC - Win from NYR on 6/28
ORL - Win from RSL on 7/4

Reverse trophy "first chance to win":
NYC - Lose vs NYR on 6/28
ORL - Lose vs RSL on 7/4

Because it interested me, Portland's earliest date for each of those above, in order: 7/11, 7/18, 7/18

Since it is relevant to recent discussion, I will actually do a one-week update. Don't get used to it, though. =P

New York City wins the Playoffs, Playoffs Combined, and All Leagues trophies by beating Toronto on 6/20. New York City has become the first of the two expansion sides to win a "forward" trophy.

Real Salt Lake wins the Regular Season trophy by beating Sporting Kansas City on 6/21.

The New York Red Bulls retain the "reverse" trophy by failing to beat Vancouver on 6/20.

Now for a more full update:

We'll start with the Regular Season trophy:

The New York Red Bulls win it on 6/24, and hold it on 6/28.
Columbus wins it off of them on 7/4, but then gives it up to Montreal.

The other forward trophies have a similar path. They move to the Red Bulls on 6/28 when NYC loses that game. They then follow the same path. The one change is that for the "All leagues" version, the Red Bulls have an extra win on 7/1 against the Cosmos.

    In the reverse trophy:
RSL wins it from the Red Bulls on 6/24, then holds it against Columbus, Orlando, and Colorado on 6/27, 7/4, and 7/11 respectively.

At this point, all of the MLS only forward trophies will follow the same path through the end of the regular season. The "All leagues" trophy has the potential to switch off of that path because of the remaining US Open Cup games. The quickest way for that trophy to involve a US open cup game is for Montreal to lose to SKC this weekend.

    Interesting...

How many times has each Canadian Team won the "Presidency"?

And what was the longest term of Presidency among them (in terms of games)? ;)

This is for the MLS only trophy including playoffs.
Toronto: 9 terms for a total of 19 games, and a max streak of 4.
Montreal: 6 terms (including present), for a total of 9 games, and a max streak of 3.
Vancouver: 1 term for a total of 1 game.

I'm not going to add anything here except "Thanks" and "Why haven't I been paying attention enough to notice this thread is here?"

Now I should receive updates on this brilliant, low traffic thread (my favorite kind).

Probably because it is tucked away in general, and is, in fact, a thread that gets an update about once a month during the season, so often drops off the front page. :D

Feel free to make random requests. I have a lot of weird statistics and stuff I keep lying around about this that I don't post because it would be a huge pain.

Alright, time for the August update:
All forward trophies follow the same path.

SKC takes it from Montreal on 7/18. The All Leagues version has an extra game here, where SKC keeps it against Houston on 7/24. The rest remain the same: RSL wins it off SKC, then losing it to DCU, who then keeps it against MON on 7/24, 8/1, and 8/8 respectively.

    The reverse trophy:
Houston takes it from RSL, then LAG takes it, then forces it onto COL, who then fails to push it on CLB. Date: 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8.

Very little chance for the all leagues trophy to diverge from the others. The trophy will have to migrate to one of the USOC finalists in order for that divergence to occur.

    Random Requests: ;)
    • Are OCSC the only team that have never won the Forward Trophy so far?

    • Are NYCFC the only team that have never won the Reverse Trophy so far?

    • What was the longest time periods for an Expansion Team to break the duck on the 4 Trophies?

    • What was the highest games count (counting only games where Trophies were on the line) for the Expansion Teams to break the Trophies Duck?

    • What was the highest games count (counting all games played by each Expansion Team since their inception) for them to break the Trophies Duck too?

    • Likewise, what was the shortest time periods and lowest games count for the above 3 questions?

If you don't count the times they held the All Leagues trophy as a lower division side, then no, they have never held any of the forward style trophies. They are the only MLS team, still existing or not, that this is the case for.
Yes, both Portland and Seattle have only had it once though.
Vancouver went more than two full seasons in MLS before they first took hold of the reverse trophy, and didn't win most of the forward trophies until in their 4th season. If either NYC or ORL are to break that record, we will have a couple seasons to wait.

If you want the actual record, that will take some time to dig up.
That will take some time to dig up.

First set of data, MLS Including Playoffs:
If you treat the rebirth of San Jose as a new team, they have not won this trophy since their return in 2008. This puts them at 2,687 days and counting to win this trophy since their re-entry to the league! If you count this as an expansion team, then Orlando is *not* the only team not to have won any of the forward trophies.

    Excluding SJE (rebirth) and ORL:
(ORL at 157 days, longer ones listed)
    1. VAN - 1204 days
    2. PHI - 553 days
    3. MIA - 396 days
This is number of losses in the trophy game before winning it the first time
    1. VAN - 4 games
    1. PHI - 4 games
    3. CHV - 3 games
    4. MIA - 2 games
    4. ORL - 2 games and counting

Interestingly enough, TAM, though an original team, also had 2 games. If Orlando wins on their next chance, then they will have the same standing as both of the prior FL teams. =P
San Jose has 248 games and counting since their re-entry. Orlando has 24 games and counting
    1. VAN - 117
    2. PHI - 59
    3. MIA - 36
    1. POR - 29 days
    2. HOU - 34 days
    3. MON - 49 days

    1. CHI - 0 games
    1. HOU - 0 games
    1. MON - 0 games
    1. NYC - 0 games
    1. SEA - 0 games
    1. TOR - 0 games

    1. POR - 4 games
    2. HOU - 5 games
    3. CHI - 8 games
    3. MON - 8 games
    3. TOR - 8 games

Quick note on the All Leagues stuff above: those numbers are for once they are in MLS. It excludes time before MLS that they won/lost the trophy while in lower divisions. Interestingly enough, all of SEA, POR, VAN, and ORL won it while in lower divisions, and MON (the only other "promoted" team) played a couple games for it, but lost.

When Minnesota joins, they too have not won it yet, but have played for it (and lost) once before.

    Update time! (As of 9/15/15)

    Forward trophies:
NYC wins it off of DCU, and holds it against CLB. This gives them a new record streak of 2 games. It also means that they broke their duck on the RS only trophy (which was following a different track when they won the other forward trophies).
Then LAG wins it from them.
Then we have SJE breaking their (since rebirth) duck by taking it from LAG! This was 2703 days after they resumed play.
The PHI wins it from them, and loses it to CLB.

    Reverse trophy:
COL holds it against SJE, then forces it on CHI.
NYR then yanks it from them, and foists it upon DCU.
DCU then maintains a vice grip on it against COL.

Congrats to the 2 teams that have broken the duck during this period. ;)

Next posts should be at the end of RS and PO...

End of 2015 regular season update:

Forward trophies all wandered around a bit. CLB holds it against DCU, then it goes to POR, SKC, SJE, and FCD in that order.

As a reminder, the forward trophies are:
    • Including Playoffs - MLS games only, and each playoff game is counted individually.
    • Playoffs combined - MLS games only, and each playoff series is combined and counted as a single game.
    • RS Only - MLS games only, only regular season games count.
    • All Leagues - All US leagues are eligible to win, and this includes the US Open Cup. Follows "Including Playoffs" rules regarding end of season playoffs.

The RS only trophy will end its season with Dallas. The other forward trophies get to pass up the first set of one-off games midweek this week.

SJE once again grabs the trophies for the 2nd time since their rebirth, and POR grabs the "Playoffs" ones for only their 3rd time ever. Orlando finishes their first season of MLS play without capturing the trophy.

    The Reverse trophy:
This one was quite a bit more stable. DC held it against CLB, and then MON. Then they foisted it upon NYC, who, sensing this was their only chance at a trophy this season, held it against ORL and NER to close out the season.

Those 3 "wins" were the first 3 that NYC has for this trophy. All MLS teams have now held this trophy at some point. POR and SEA have held it the least, with 1 time each. COL and NER the most, with 58.

Until this weekend, there weren't any updates. I'll wait at least until the round is over, because otherwise the "playoffs combined" one gets weird.

RS trophy - stays with Dallas, no eligible games

Incl Playoffs and All Leagues trophies - Swaps to Seattle on 11/1, but goes back to Dallas on 11/9.

Playoffs Combined trophy - Ends in the same place, with Dallas, because they won their series.

    2015 Conference Final Update:

RS trophy - stays with Dallas, no eligible games

Incl Playoffs, All Leagues and Playoffs Combined trophies - All end up with Portland. For the former two, they are picked up on 11/22, and remain on 11/29 (they almost exited the playoffs by flopping back to Dallas, though). The Playoffs Combined was clinched when Portland sealed the deal earlier today.

Reverse trophy - Stays with New York City, no eligible games

Some random statistics, because Portland hasn't held any of the trophies (except the all leagues one) very much. This is the first "streak" for them in the Incl Playoffs trophy, with 2 games. They move up to 5 times holding it overall. In the Playoffs Combined, they have held it 4 times, never more than one game running.

However, in the All Leagues trophy, they've had a bit more success, and have held the trophy 15 times now, with a maximum streak of 3 games. Most of this was from the times the trophy made its way down into the 2nd division.

It's that time! The first update of the 2016 season is upon us.

    RS Trophy:
Dallas retains it against Philadelphia on 3/6. Houston captures it on 3/12, then the Red Bulls on 3/19, followed by New England on 4/1.

    Other "Forward" trophies:
Portland retains it against Columbus on 3/6. San Jose captures it on 3/13, then LA on 3/19. With the draw against Vancouver, LA keeps is on 4/2.

    "Reverse" trophy:
Chicago yanks it from New York City's grasp on 3/6, and then has a vice grip on it for 3/11 and 3/19 against Orlando and Columbus respectively. Then, Philadelphia breaks Chicago's death grip on 4/2.
