From the "Süddeutschen U17-Meisterschaft." Looks like Stuttgart won.

On the bench for a first-team friendly today, with Julian Green in the starting lineup. Credit for the spot goes to @bballshawn

I've watched all of Tillman's appearances in Bayern's last few friendlies and he's an impressive looking talent. He's very fluid and smooth with the ball at his feet but also appears to have good positional awareness. His passing is clean and he's adept at operating in tight spaces and looks dangerous one on one when he has room to take his man on. Definitely one to watch and probably a guy that has a future with the German youth teams.

I've seen enough. Let's get him on the senior squad.

He looked very good in the small bits I've seen from him at youth levels. Probably one of those guys we don't have a chance at until he doesn't make the jump up the German national team level (like Fabian or Jones).

One piece of good news for the US is that Timothy did not make the final squad for Germany at the 2016 UEFA U-17 Championship held in May. He's part of their U-17 player pool, but Germany is pretty much stacked at every position of every age group, so the competition is cutthroat. Another possible explanation is that Timothy didn't want to get provisionally cap-tied to Germany because he wants to play for the US without having to file a one-time switch, and might have voluntarily turned down a German call-up to a competitive tournament. Timothy wasn't part of Germany U-17 qualifying, either. He's only ever played for Germany U-17 in friendlies. Either way, with his younger brother already representing the US U-15's and with Germany's cutthroat competition, it will be hard for Timothy to say no to the US down the road, especially if Klinsy offers him a ticket to Russia a la Julian Green.

That is promising. I didn't realize his baby bro is playing for the US youth team already.

So how American is he? Is he more Jeremy Toljan or Julian Green?

Like with any other German-American player with a choice, his Americaness will ultimately be decided by how much (or little) the DFB needs him. The less they need him, the more patriotic I can imagine him getting.

One of my buddies is traveling to Charlotte to see the game this weekend. He is a fan, but not a fanatic like we BigSoccer denizens. He looked at the squad list for BM the other day and decided he wants his money back. I would say that triple figs per ticket to see a team like Bayern trot out Julian Green and Timmy Tillman is a bit of a slap in the face of the fans. I get the reasons why, but maybe then you don't charge that much to see the second stringers? If they are coming over to try and build a fan base partially, I am not sure this is great marketing.

Personlich, I don't know why people are spending multiple hundreds to see these games. My wife surprised me with Chelsea Milan tickets three of four years ago in Miami, and it was just an absolute snooze fest. These preseason friendlies are perfect for watching on DVR.

No accounting for taste I guess. On a side note, you quoted me but it showed up as Jazzy Altidore. I don't want to saddle that poster with my drivel so not sure how to fix that?

You're correct though, but I think it is short sighted. You bring a team of no accounts over, trot them out under the Bayern flag, a lot of fans go home thinking not such great things about Bayern.
