I believe this player to be American, but not 100% sure at the moment. I believe he was part of a group of German-Americans in the Hertha Berlin youth ranks a few years back. He is a 98' who plays for U-17 team.
Nice find. More of a case for the detective work thread. http://www.transfermarkt.com/timothy-mason/profil/spieler/251332
Any chance he's a Kenyan-German-American? Maybe some sort of connection to Sampson-era U.S. international (and German-American) Michael Mason? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Mason_(soccer)
https://instagram.com/p/4NAZtmAamy/ Link to his Instagram. He hangs with John Brooks often and they might be cousins? So he may be a Yank
He captions that he is cousins with John on one of his pictures. Looks like Jerome Kiesewetter is there too.
Not sure if they are actually cousins. A lot of friends call each other cousin nowadays. It could also be something to do with being black in Germany as there are not exactly many blacks there. He has played for the YNTs
Their mother's could be German sisters. That would make them cousins. Their fathers could be American and Kenyan. That would still make them cousins but only one could play for the U.S.
Well just from following Brooks on instagram, Jerome Kieswetter is there, too. Sooooo, no idea if Mason and Brooks actually have any relation, but if he is with two German-Americans, decent chance he may be as well.
Their U19 roster, which lists a number of dual nationalities, doesn't list one for Mason. https://www.vfl-wolfsburg.de/de/info/nachwuchs/mannschaften/a-junioren-u19/kader.html However, it also doesn't list one for (U17) Lyonel Hyer, when it has done so before. So, who knows...
Both Mason and Hyer are listed as 'German' on their respective teams. Maybe Wolfsburg is in CYA mode when it comes to the young yanks? I just know Transfermarkt says differently as far a nationality statuses go..
Mason is with Wolfsburg's U23s. https://www.vfl-wolfsburg.de/de/info/akademie/mannschaften/u23/kader.html https://datencenter.dfb.de/profil/336537 He's a '98, so still age-eligible for a potential Olympic qualifying group.
