Moyes held Tim back by taking him out of the starting lineup and then he came in and scored in the 84th minute......coincidence that Timmy scored in the Aussie vs. Japan for the first time also in the 84th minute of the game. Coincidence.....more like fate...maybe a sign from our patron saint of soccer Johnny Warren, that Tim should be the next Aussie captain...

    TIM CAHILL is the BEST!!!!

I love Tim, and he's definitely one of our top couple of players at the moment, but I think there are a few other guys I'd prefer as captain... Vinnie Grella, Lucas Neill, Mark Bresciano.

Not that I don't think he's a great player, just that I think the other guys are more suited to the leadership role.

Agreed, I'd put Chippers in there as well (although his age would rule him out long term.) Cahill is like Kewell, great player but not really captain material.

    That @#$%&*

What a classless jerk for picking on the Socceroos, and taking a hit on Tim Cahill for some publicity.

By the way did anybody else vote in the poll? Well currently 80% of 2011 votes have declared that the score is Tim Cahill 5 Gallagher 0 :D

    Take that you washed prick:p

By the way has Tim Cahill given some sort of response or acceptance to his nomination. I know that Moyes has literally changed his tune overnight. I mean one minute he is angry at the Australian federation for Tim's late return and the next he is singing his prasies for his efforts in the match, and later for his nomination.

I take the response in Australia has been fairly positive to Tim's nomination.

Honestly I hope he wins. It would be a win for Australian Football

I dont think Timmy willl get the gong, but its great news for him. To be mentioned in that list is an awesome achievement.... Lucky I got his name and number on my latest Socceroo jersey.

I reckon a top ten poll isnt out of his reach.

Forget L.Neil when will a Big Club Come for Cahill.

With Moyes coming out and saying that Tim is as good as any midfield player that Arsenal have and Tim being one of nominees for the prestigious European Footballer of the Year award. When will the Big clubs come for Mr T Cahill he is scoring goal after goal for Everton. The More he scores the better he looks when the voting for the award is finished. Tim is Australia's best player at the moment and he Should be playing Champions League Football.

In fact Man Utd enquired about just after the World Cup, but Everton wanted silly money.

Re: Forget L.Neil when will a Big Club Come for Cahill.

    Great article on Timmy!

For the past fortnight, Tim has been enjoying the house as he makes the most of an early mark from his English Premier League club to continue his rehabilitation from the broken foot that ended his season.

There's good news on that front, and good news generally for the Socceroos midfielder as he looks forward - genuinely looks forward - to July's Asian Cup. These are salad days for the son of an English father and Samoan mother who left home at 17 to pursue his dream, worked hard as he learned his trade at Millwall, before the rewards began to roll in three years ago.

A Socceroos debut, a move to the Premiership, a massively upgraded contract after a stunning first season at Goodison Park, playing in the UEFA Champions League, and then the World Cup, where he came off the bench almost a year ago to fire two late goals to turn defeat into victory against Japan. It all came in a rush, and while Cahill's latest season has been blighted by injury - first to his knee, then his foot - there is little doubt that his star is still rising.

There is talk on various West Ham forums that the club is eyeing off Timmy. Word is they'll pay 10 million+ pounds for him! Kewell has also been linked with them, though he's been linked with just about every premiership club lately.

Socceroos star Tim Cahill has had special boots made in a bid to protect himself against another foot injury.

The Everton midfielder, who suffered a recurrence of metatarsal damage in his left foot during a pre-season friendly, is due to return to the Premier League next month.

"I don't want to put my body at risk when it is such an innocuous thing that happened - to jump and land," Cahill told EvertonTV.

"I have had new boots made, I have tried different orthotics (foot supports).

"I have kept my weight down and tried to build more muscle and I have been doing different things with the physios and nutritionists as well to make myself stronger for when I get back."
