Yes But that is a long period of time and Hitler was only in charge from 1933 Germany lost its colonial possessions in 1918 which was a source of national shame However if you read into the much shorter period from around 1934 on, Hitler made clear his view that lebensraum for Germany meant anschluss with Austria absorbing the sudentenland and the expansion east He specifically rejected colonialism which the likes of great Britain thought might satisfy him The idea of Hitler as globalist is essentially false
We'll see. Someone will complain that "Military style" is too broad, and that bro looks doesn't make a gun military style. The NZ gubmint will pull back and another shooting will occur in less than a decade. Fun for you and your bullet-riddled kids!
What's seriously interesting is that NZ made this move following a mass killing of Muslims. Tough to say whether NZ thinks brown lives matter, or whether they're trying to stop the next shooter who doesn't care about the color of his/her target.
Pretty clearly Jacinta Ahern thinks that brown lives matter, and that she currently has broad public support.
Basically all semi-autos are going to be banned, with limited exceptions for hunters and pest control. They've already changed the regs so that semi-autos can no longer be held on Cat A license. My Dad has a cat E license because he has special military rifles - so he is one of the few people left that can legally be in possession.
The specific NZ context matters here, and is seemingly unknown in the US, so I will try to explain. The Port Arthur Massacre in Australia in 1996 was a watershed down under and led to tough gun laws in NZ and Australia. Both nations had a high incidence of gun ownership - especially NZ. Indeed my dad's generation were still hunting to put food on the table as a lad, or to earn extra money. We still have my great grandfathers Boer War era 308 which were distributed dirt cheap in NZ between the wars to ensure a body of young men who could shoot. In simple terms in to the 80s us lads learned how to shoot and there were guns in the house. Rapid urbanisation changed that slowly, but keep in mind my dad is just turning 75 and there are still a crap tonne of people with licenses and guns. So here come the differences. Owning a gun in NZ is not a right but a licensed activity. Always was. This means the govt can always tighten it via regs and changing the licensing. There is no "freedom!" crowd, and using a gun for self defence in NZ is simply not allowed. Your guns have to be locked up at all times. Handguns are essentially illegal with limited exceptions for target shooters. No one carries guns around the place. Following Port Arthur, and our own run of mini-mass shootings in the 90s, Aus banned semi-autos. NZ choose not to but restricted the hell out of it. If you want a MSSA you have to have a Cat-E license which you have to work at getting. You also need separate gun lockers for ammo, gun and bolt. The police vet this and can come to your house at any time to check. The Cat-A license is easier to get, and you can get yourself a semi-auto .22 for rabbit shooting but no high capacity mags etc etc NZ's approach seemed to work. I had this discussion so many times with my dad who is a Cat E holder, and he liked the laws because it restricted the heavy weapons to people like him. Only 7000 people have this license. For 22 years from 1997-2019 all was good. Then 50 people got murdered. I think, like many kiwis, I accept I lost the debate on this. Australia was right. The key point is the MSSA were only ever one more Port Arthur away from a 100% ban. Doesn't matter if it was a mosque or a school or a domestic escalation like NZ used to see back in the day So plenty of gun owners are going to hate this, but politically both major parties and ever major interest group wants these guns gone. If you want to be cynical, they are doing this quick while no one can stop them. These brown lives definitely matter. The sense of shock is huge - especially after 22 safe years.
No one can stand against it Even our conservative party have come out in favour. it's a shame because I really liked shooting these guns in the hills and on the range. But its not worth the risk
Don't think so mate. What might be left will be low capacity .22s for rabbit shooting. Otherwise we will all have to get back to our bolt action .303s like the old days But you know what - the world still turned before the commercialisation of guns, and we shot rabbits and deer just the same. I don't really need a semi-auto .22 on a rabbit shoot
Yes - and it is why I have always found US gun culture to be so bizarre e.g In NZ the idea of using guns for self defence mainly doesn't exist and you will get in huge trouble with the cops if they catch you
Gunz "connoisseurs" debating all the technicalities of Jacinda's ban and their application to the US in 5.... 4.... 3...
Instead of replying, "Great! If they can get 'em all, even better!", the idea behind the questions is to disrupt the ban to such a degree that bun nuts can keep the guns they want kept. MY dick is big enough not to need an extension, so you'll hear no such questions from me. Funny how the one poster here from Alabama is more progressive than the Joisey bunch all by himself.
As opposed to simply looking for the answer, which is conveniently available with about 20 seconds of searching.
A teen in a eecent local gun control rally had a homemade sign that said "Someday I hope to have as many rights as a gun."
Be interesting if our 22 magnum semi-auto bunny gun survives the chop it truly is a hunting rifle in style but ... I guess we will have to wait for the details
