With regards to Reyna, I wonder how the decisions he made with his son were perceived and received at NYCFC. It certainly seems like a bit of a slap in the face of your own organization to send him to nowhere even within the City group.
Agreed. The guy epitomizes metro NY scene and was regarded pretty dedicated. Talk about your different settings.
Well if Reyna is anything like my friends from college, he'll be posting on facebook about how much cooler Austin used to be three months after moving there.
Fire rebrand is official. https://www.chicagofirefc.com/post/2019/11/21/finding-fire-inside-our-new-badge
Red Bulls have declined the option on Luis Robles and Bradley Wright-Phillips is out of contract. https://www.newyorkredbulls.com/pos...-red-bulls-announce-end-year-roster-decisions
Am I insane about Chicago? Yeah the new logo is hilaribad. But pretty much ten times out of ten, if I thought I saw a Fire bumper sticker it was actually just a firefighter. Suddenly I'm seeing a lot of comments that the Fire had the best crest in the league. Have Fire fans felt that way before the rebrand? Lot of good moves for the Fire lately, but this one is admittedly pretty rough.
The entire "refresh" of the franchise is being unimaginably bungled. They got one big chance at getting this right, and I don't think it's too early to say that they've catastrophically blown it.
Most of the Fire fans absolutely loved the old crest and were obviously attached to it, but the Fire fanbase is also pretty damn tiny and hasn't grown since Blanco was signed. I hated the damn thing, but I'm fully aware I'm in a very small minority of fans who felt that way. The new one is...ok.
I'm trying to tell if you wearing it already is ironic or not. I just remember visiting Chicago a few years ago and seeing the Fire logo on a fair number of bumpers. I was pretty excited! Always heard their market penetration was not great, but it seemed like they had a fair few fans around town. Then I saw the actual Chicago crest, remembered what it looked like, and realized I hadn't seen a single bumper sticker for the team in the city at all to that point. So I dunno.
Why would they change the name? it seems like they are still drawing a connection between the badge and brand between the Chicago Fire (the event) and the team. They also specifically call out the confusion that the old badge caused due to its resemblance to a firefighters badge. I kinda understand why they would want to change away from that badge and move to one that is uniquely the Chicago Fire's. Now, I won't comment on the quality of the badge itself, but it's not like I can say anything.. Have you seen the Sounders' badge?
If confusion was the issue, maybe integrate a soccer ball into the logo instead of ripping off Vancouver's crest and making me think Chicago is their minor league affiliate. Nutmeg News was right on target.
I'm sure somewhere in a basement in Tukwila, some superfan is prepared to enter year 12 of boycotting the sounders for abandoning their old orca motif.
Woah, woah, woah.. The Fire's crest is the Chicago skyline ablaze and a reflection of that fire forming a crown representing the power of Chicagoans to "rise above" the flames! Totally different than the snowcapped Coast Mountains reflecting upon the blue Pacific Ocean...
Naw, man, we cool. They brought Sammy back: Introducing Sammy the Sounder! 🐳 After years away exploring the Pacific Ocean, our favorite orca is back in the Puget Sound.➡️ https://t.co/X71ZMD2hw4 pic.twitter.com/YZJf8eCUtR— Seattle Sounders FC (@SoundersFC) April 8, 2019
Haha. I always love statements like this for any organization looking to change anything: "So, during the research exercise that the Club carried out over the last 18 months, with surveys, interviews, focus groups and extensive Club and league research, that name and that origin story repeatedly stood out as two of the most powerful assets the Club and its fans valued, and certainly the standard by which all other ideas were judged." For those more in tune with the local Chicago market, did they attempt to send out multiple versions of potential rebranding and let fans/public vote for it or was all of this analysis behind closed doors? It is interesting to see the different approaches over the last handful of years.
That's nice, but doesnt compare to the head scratching decision the Crew made. Precourt dumped the beloved Crew Cat and replaced him with " SC Cat" for reasons which were never explained, probably because it made no sense. Well, it did really piss off the fans and that seems to have been the motive behind pretty much everything else they did so who knows. So when the new owners took over in January, almost literally the first thing they did was announce the return of Crew Cat. Which was great except that they kept SC Cat around as well, which made about as much sense as any of the rest of it Alas, there are apparently no plans to being back the Crewzers.
I still think that the proper authentic rebrand for Columbus would have been to replace the three hard-hatted guys with a guy in a lab coat, a college professor and an insurance executive.
Other than using RSL's colors and the badge looking like a cardigan sweater or the logo of one of the movie theater chains, yeah, great.... Whenever a graphic designer uses terms like "capturing the spirit of the city" you know they are totally making it up. A designer I used to work with said that his first project in Art School was to place a black dot anywhere you want on a white background. That's it. And then you had to explain why you decided to put it over here instead of there.... "It explores the vibrancy of the stark contrast between black and white and resonates the essence from within" Yeah, I just made that up. See how easy it is?
I'm gonna have to ask you to change your profile pic. It causes me to throw up in my mouth a little every time I see it
