Full name is Thomas Vincent Robinson. He's in the U19 Bundesliga with Cottbus. Likely either '01 or '02. He debuted yesterday in their loss to Dynamo Dresden. Transfermarkt: https://www.transfermarkt.us/thomas-robinson/profil/spieler/696337 Listed with the club: http://www.fcenergie.de/u19-a-junioren.html Initially unclear why Transfermarkt listed US citizenship, but found this article which says he's from Atlanta. I'd say it's quite likely he's American. https://www.niederlausitz-aktuell.d...a-jugend-startet-in-die-bundesligasaison.html
Whoops, responded to the Detective Work thread post before seeing this. Ah, well. It seems a safe guess -- something like "German-born to one or more American parents who travel for work," perhaps -- though that and a nickel will get you a 5-cent gum... As I noted on the DW thread, this is surely not the Tommy Robinson with Kalonji, which I mention since that's an Atlanta-based organization.
I can tell you that this actually is the Tommy Robinson that was with Kalonji. I've been talking with Tommy on Instagram for the past few weeks and he actually has a really wild story of how he ended up in Germany. I don't want to disclose all of the details of the conversations I've had with him (for privacy reasons), but prior to moving to Cottbus, he had essentially zero connections with Germany. He didn't even get noticed while he was at Kalonji. It wasn't until he went to go train in Canada that he was noticed by a German coach who referred him to the staff at Energie's youth academy. So this was essentially totally by chance.
Thanks for the info. I was confused by this photo on the Kalonji site: https://kalonjisoccer.com/team_member/tommy-robinson/ But this is the "correct" TR's web site, which of course also mentions Kalonji. http://www.tvrsoccer.net/home.html That site links to a short highlight video, by the way. I'm perfectly happy to be wrong! Good luck to both Tommys Robinson, if in fact there are two...
Based on the story told by @FutureUSMNT, Robinson pretty much has to be an '01. '00s are too old for the U19 league and '02s are too young to move abroad without the right second passport.
I've heard that the coach who referred him to the staff at Energie's youth academy was Thomas Niendorf from USL2 side Victoria Highlanders.
That's also backed up by some stuff on his web site (linked in an earlier post of mine) unless, I suppose, he was playing up, though there's no particular reason to assume that.
came on the 89th min as Cottbus got knocked out in dfb junior cup 2-0 by Bremen. I doubt he's a 1st team prospect he's nothing but a sub player in the club's U19 and that's been the case all season.
Cottbus gave pro contract to his CB partner and the LB of the U19. Does decrease the chance he'll make it there. could be wrong but if you give other pro contracts might be to players in other positions than defense.
He seems to have recently joined TSG Neustrelitz in what I believe is the fifth division. Der 1,87 Meter große Innenverteidiger wechselt aus der U 19 des FC Energie Cottbus ins Neustrelitzer Parkstadion. https://www.tsg-neustrelitz.de/wordpress/tsg-oberligisten-staerken-defensive/ Guessing here that, based on what was noted on his site (linked above) he figured last year would be a "gap year" and he would at least possibly return for college, which then became a moot point due to coronavirus.
It looks like he's moved on. The link above now points to another player's profile and that photo isn't him.
