I expect them to escape their group. Maybe even possibly top it.

Dortmund finished 4th in the Bundesliga and from this season top-4 in the Bundesliga are directly qualified for the Champions League group stage, so I suspect this is why he picked Dortmund instead of Everton or some mid-table English PL team ...Dortmund is also ranked among the top-10 best clubs in Europe by UEFA over the past 5-years :

“Borussia Dortmund have always had first-rate experiences with Denmark internationals. Thomas Delaney is a strong player in terms of his physicality and his character, as well as being an excellent fit for our team and for BVB as a whole thanks to his open manner and his fierce will to win. He will enhance our game with his physical presence,” declared Sporting Director Michael Zorc.

The fact that they have signed him for €20 million ($23.5 million) just before the WC also show how keen they were on getting him, so that no other teams get to have a second chance to look at him during the WC ...

You would think watching him play in the Bundesliga would be enough. I thought he was excellent on each opportunity that I had to watch him last season. Good on Dortmund for making quick decision and executing it early.

Delaney is the most sure starter for the NT besides Schmeichel and Christian Eriksen ... and there can be no question about that ... in fact, Daniel Wass has just had an excellent season in the Spanish league :
    http://www.worldfootball.net/assists/esp-primera-division-2017-2018/

... but he got cut from the Danish WC squad because there simply is no room for him in central midfield ..

There was an interview with FCK manager and coach Solbakken in a Danish newspaper a few days ago, how Delaney got sold to Werder Bremen... he said that Bremen came asking to buy their Swedish NT left-back Ludwig Augustinsson, but he had high hopes for Delaney and had also promised to help him move abroad, so he told them that Augustinsson was not for sale ... unless they would take a closer look at Delaney who he believed would be a perfect fit for them, and then sign him as well .. so being keen on getting Augustinsson they did exactly that and eventually made an offer on both players .... the rest is history ...

The 26-year-old speaks fluent German. Only rarely does he borrow a word from English and ask for the German translation. He learnt the language at school, although he jokingly admitted: "I wasn't so good. It was only after four years that I could say: Die Sonne scheint, und ich heiße Thomas... (The sun's shining, and my name is Thomas...)."

That move worked out for him. I had doubts he'd have gotten even that many for a club like Dortmund.

Talk about a guy making the very most of his talent. Just a few years ago he was in Denmark.
