Stepping away from the girl's parents for a moment, let's look at a different culprit. I'm trying to imagine the meeting in the Dallas front office: "Wow. What a great night coming up! We're going to have our largest crowd of the year in front of possibly the largest TV audience of the season." "Yeah, it's going to be great. What could go wrong?" "Hey. I know a guy who's got this cousin who's daughter is a singer." "Really? Is she any good?" "Well, she's on facebook. And she'll do it for free." "Good enough for me. Let's do it." "Man, this is going to be one sweet night. I bet people will talk about this for days to come."
For as bad as that was, at least Roseanne Barr more or less sped through it. The singer/songwriter, on the other hand, draaaaaaaaaagged it out. -G
To be fair - when nerves come into it, a whole bunch of stuff can throw you off, and if you can't hear yourself very well, then it can go south really fast. This is why most singers use a monitor, if they can - either on the ground or in their ear.
I cut away from the channel for the anthem (Olympics were probably on) and I was wondering why it took so long for the anthem to finish. Now I know. I love that NBCSN shows the procession (ESPN has started doing it regularly, too). I don't love the fact that NBCSN shows every national anthem (I think they've only missed one or two). For all the other major sports, national anthems are only broadcast when it's an All-Star game, or a Championship game (ironically, we haven't had anthems broadcast for either of those events in years; not since they picked it up on accident in DC back in '07 I think ). Outside of that, anthems usually go during commercials (or are at times talked over, which is quite odd). If NBCSN could cut away after the procession & right before the PA announcer comes on like ESPN has done recently, that would be great (we'd get an extra pregame segment out of it, too). Likewise, if ESPN could show national anthems for those two special occasions, that would also be great.
Oh please, she was auditioning for American Idol or whatever show is on now by pimping the national anthem. Fortunately, the karma gods took care of it.
I don't even want to click on the second video, so for you masochists that did, was it as bad as the FCD one?
Not quite as bad. I think there is something to the previous notion about being able to hear herself. It was still waaaay over done though.
Parents pushing their children as stars makes me want to vomit and her website is full of hideous pretence. Yeah, back your children and tell them they can achieve whatever they want, just don't tell them they have a particular talent when they don't. That was horrible for all concerned.
