Im not positive what you're referring to, but I pretty much have to stop the loading of each page I click on within bigsoccer.com before it finishes loading otherwise random junk ads take over and I have to close the window completely. It's a huge pain in the butt.
There are probably a good half-dozen competent ad blockers out there and generally all you have to do is look them up and click a couple of times. There's really no excuse these days.
Is there something particular to BigSoccer that causes them? Some flaw? I added an Ad Blocker to my phone finally because of the hijacks. But it was really only on BS and maybe one other website that there were the constant issues.
Lots of enterprises say that, but they really don't mean it. Plus, a browser extension is of a different category than, say, a new standalone PDF reader (FoxIt for example). ...and the "security" one-word shutdown is kind of silly, though it's not unusual that enterprises say that to scare most employees off from trying to get stuff that will help them. And ad blockers actually help security, and any enterprise claiming otherwise that doesn't have a basic DNS redirect that cuts down on most if not all ads, is lying to you. Security has been my business for the better part of two decades, at least on the end-user side.
Oh I believe you--and if you worked security at my company, I could ask, But our system does block you when you try to add an ad-blocker. And I'm not in IT.
You can tell your company's IT security that I think they're stupid. Why would anyone block the installation of a ********ing ad blocker? I suppose NoScript is out, too?
Some of it is. IMHO. No arguement there. Still, not allowing any executable downloads is not the dumbest thing either.
Browser extensions (at least the usual Chrome and Firefox ones) are not executable. You can't just "run" them.
You know what sucks? Finding magenta crayon all over a load of dried laundry on a Saturday night. This forum? It seems to be better now that the mods allow us to explicitly describe how we want Garble, Greedy, and Fratass to cease to exist.
Dear God, why? But seriously, depends on what browser you use. Ad Block Plus works for both Firefox and Chrome. Safari, or whatever POS Apple uses, might have something similar if not ABP itself. It's been around long enough, I wouldn't be surprised.
Two of our most significant players last year requested trades and are now gone. One of those players has been a face of the franchise for six years. In order to read and post about the departure of lionhearted Justin Meram I have to click on a thread called "2018 Season Roster Thread." This forum sucks.
The forum only sucks because you didn't start the thread you're dreaming about. I wouldn't deep six a "JM9 appreciation thread" or whatever you have in mind. We never declared you can't create new threads. I actually can't recall the last time I merged a thread except when two threads were started on the exact same topic (2 PBP threads for example). On the other hand, we had a period where every single news story got its own thread. I'll happily take the heat for keeping that fragmentation down. There has to be some middle ground between "no thread allowed for Crew legends leaving" and "new thread for a random MR interview with new player outside of practice."
I’ll second this. I’ve done a lot of traffic cop stuff when it comes to having clean breaks between pre-match, matchday and post-match threads, but I don’t remember ever saying big news stories couldn’t get their own place.
I know you guys wouldn't moderate it away, yet, we've all accepted the fact that soccer player talk goes in the season roster thread. Learned helplessness pervades!
