McBride at Fulham, Dolo at Hannover, Enochs at Osnabruck, Howard at Everton, Corona at TJ are the examples of beloved American players at foreign clubs.
I think Howard got respect, but not sure if he was beloved. I totally forgot about Cherundolo at Hannover.
Enochs has a wing of Osnabruck’s stadium named after him. Corona’s goal sent TJ to Mexico’s top flight for the first time. He then started and won a Liga MX final.

Lichaj went 90 minutes and drew a yellow card in a 1-0 defeat to Villa. He was rated 6.4 via Fotmob which was third best for Forest.
I read in the comments that the deal has an option for a 2nd year if he plays in 20 games next season. That seems somewhat reasonable.
I suppose you're right. He could have that by middle of the season if he's all healthy and he doesn't have a new manager who somehow loathes him.
He should have an out-clause, if they get relegated, which it looks like has a good chance of happening. Really deserves to be on a club that has a good chance at promotion.
Nottingham is safe with 32 pts., eight above the relegation line and in the middle of the table. Sunderland, though, is a goner. It seems a bit disrespectful to make the extension contingent on games played. He's been consistently one of their best players.
I had to look that up. That's crazy that last season they were in the Premier League and next year they are going to be in League 1.
But Jozy was the problem... lol... Onyewu was pretty well-liked at Standard too, fwiw. He stuck around for Prud'homme and the club.
Similarly, there is no defending Sunderland's record in the Premier League: non-existent. Lol. Soccer fans, like much of the world, will endless mistake weather for climate. I feel badly for Sunderland, tbh, but anyone who can get 50k butts in the seat and not hire/buy/organize the right talent to avoid a 2 league drop in a couple of seasons deserves their fate, sadly.
The Legend is going to be Sunderland's 30 year yo-yo from "Div 3" up to 10th in the EPL and back down to Div 3 (in like 5-6 years!) All while filling (or close to) a 48k seat Stadium. That's legendary!
The total disarray in that club is already making another American a textbook example of how not to do things.
