I agree. But he was raised there and developed as a player in France. No doubt he is more connected to France (he even turned down an interview request in English). Big opportunity for him
I'm actually impressed by the American fans. 4-10 years ago these kind of things would have turned fanbase's anger up to 11 Now, it seems far more subdued, mature, and rational based upon my initial reactions. Well done, guys (wiping away a tear in my eye in the same way a parent does when he realizes his kids have grown up)
I think you'd see more of a freak out if he was still in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 ..... folks won't get too upset about someone in the French 3rd division. It's not sexy enough for them.
I always figure if the kids can't play for their Euro countries' youth teams they probably won't develop into quality internationals anyway. Then I close my eyes and think about Fabian Johnson and sip on my beer. France is soooooo stacked I think we have a good shot at providing him a soft landing.
I am still waiting for Fabian Hurzeler to give up on the German national team and save American Soccer
If we are going down that route, this whole article is a classic: http://worldsoccertalk.com/2009/09/...r-league-soccer-let-another-italian-get-away/
I think there is too much going on elsewhere for people to notice. A couple of setbacks and we might get back.
Video of his 10 goals with Chateauroux. Hopefully he can play regularly for Reims next season in a promotion push.
