Barca B captain Ferran Sarsanedas ruptured his cruciate ligament in the first half of the mini derby. The Barça B captain was taken off in the 25th minute in tears. Barça confirmed on Monday that he will have to have an operation and will be out for around five months, which rules him our of the majority of the season. --------Also Barca 2-1 in UEFA Youth League over Inter:
The UEFA youth league game already played and Barca won 0-2 over Inter! Lead the group but not yet assured of first place: https://www.google.com/search?q=uef...TF-8#sie=m;/g/11gmcyjbsq;2;/m/0k29wwm;dt;fp;1
Barca's UEFA Youth League team got a 1-1 draw today which confirmed that they top their group, Ansu (Anssumane Fati) scored in the 9th minute. PSV came back, though, as Yorbe Vertessen pulled back one for the Dutch side in the 74th minute. Meanwhile, Inter's victory in London against Tottenham has left the second place completely open for the final game of the group stage. The Catalans top the group with 11 points, followed by Spurs with six, PSV with five and Inter with four. In the last round, Barcelona will host Tottenham at the Mini Estadi and the Dutch team will travel to Italy to face Inter. (Inter needs to hope that Barca plays for pride in a meaningless home match.) Barca, both Madrids, and ManU are also through to the round of 16 (as group winners), group runner ups, however, play 8 winners from the Domestic Champions side of the draw. Through to round of 16: Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid Clinched top-two finish: Hoffenheim, Liverpool, Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain Through to play-offs: Juventus, Monaco, Chelsea*, Dinamo Zagreb*, Dynamo Kyiv*, Hertha Berlin*, Montpellier*, PAOK*, Sigma Olomouc* *via domestic champions path Can finish first, second or third: Ajax, Bayern München, Benfica, Galatasaray, Porto Can still reach play-offs: Internazionale Milano, Lokomotiv Moskva, PSV Eindhoven, Roma, Tottenham Hotspur, Viktoria Plzeň
what a freaking goal !!!! taking the ball from his own half and dribbling throughout them and finishing with an amazing shot , he should have taken the Penalty as well to score the second
I seem to recall that Brexit will make it harder for English clubs to "steal" youth players from Spain and other EU countries.
Youth (well mostly Barca B but also UEFA Youth CL) updates: At today's training: With a number of players still injured -- Sergi Roberto did return to light training -- and Gerard Pique given permission to take the day off, Valverde needed reinforcements as he began to plan for Levante on Sunday. The B teamers called up were Carevic - GK, Guillem - RB, Chumi - CB, Miranda - LB, Wague - RB, Oriol Busquets - DM, Collado - Attacking Mid, Riqui Puig - Attacking Mid, and Ballou - LW. Some, like Miranda, Riqui Puig, Busquets and Chumi train regularly with the first team. Yesterday the UEFA youth team lost its unbeaten record to Tottenham 0-2 but they'd already won their group, Tottenham advances to play winners of the Champions group for right to enter final 16, where Barca is already qualified. Abel Ruiz - Striker is out for 4-6 weeks with an injury.
Older article so it may have been posted before (even by me) but an interesting read about how even an award winning youth team may not have too many breakthroughs into the next level, whether with the parent club or elsewhere: https://www.sport-english.com/en/ne...th-league-campions-where-are-they-now-6779170 That said, these players are just 23 and more will make bigger impacts.
Dam how old is that #3 Feel sorry for the kid who wasted the last PK , he was given a second chance after he missed the first shot but he ended up wasting the second shot as well
Barca B hosting Relegation bound Castellon and with a win can move within a point of 4th place and playoff position to advance. Of course no more help from Alena and Abel Ruiz still injured I think
Decent interview with Pimi, coach of Barca B: https://www.sport-english.com/en/ne...ui-puig-lionel-messi-barca-b-and-more-7237376
My goodness no posts in 5 weeks! The runners up from CL group teams had to play the winners from the other side of the draw and some big teams are out, like PSG & Juventus: Tuesday Hertha Berlin 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain Dinamo Zagreb 1-1 Lokomotiv Moskva (Dinamo win 5-4 on pens) Chelsea 3-1 Monaco PAOK 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur Wednesday Midtjylland 1-1 Roma (Midtjylland win 4-2 on pens) Dynamo Kyiv 3-0 Juventus Sigma Olomouc 0-2 Lyon Montpellier 2-1 Benfica Good info on draw for Youth League CL on 14:00CET, 22 February, Nyon and sets stage for pairings through the Final (no future draws as I read that): Teams Ajax (NED)* Atlético Madrid (ESP)* Barcelona (ESP, holders)* Chelsea (ENG) Dinamo Zagreb (CRO) Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) Hertha Berlin (GER) Hoffenheim (GER)* Liverpool (ENG)* Lyon (FRA) Manchester United (ENG)* Midtjylland (DEN) Montpellier (FRA) Porto (POR)* Real Madrid (ESP)* Tottenham Hotspur (ENG) Draw procedure The eight group winners and eight play-off victors go into the draw, with the first team picked in each tie at home. No teams are seeded and there is no country protection. The winners and runners-up of the same group in the Champions League path cannot be drawn against each other (so we won't draw Tottenham, not sure if that means they'll be on the other side of the draw once one of us is drawn or just applies to Round of 16). The quarter-final, semi-final and final draws are open. The semi-finals and final will be held at Colovray Stadium, Nyon. Road to Nyon Round of 16: 12/13 March Quarter-finals: 2/3 April Semi-final: 26 April, Nyon Final: 29 April, Nyon
Yeah, two time runners up (to us 2014, RB Salzburg 2017). I almost mentioned them and Monaco as both have had success here and/or raising talented youth products of late. In other youth news, Barca B remain about 3 points out of playoffs (4th place), despite crapping the bed lately (big win followed by two losses and a draw, suspension for Wague, injuries, etc.)
UEFA Youth Champions League draw held today and the full field is set, but they don't seem to believe in "brackets" over at UEFA so I'm having a hard time getting a visual showing the path to the final, but I typed it bracket style below. Single legs, host determined by luck of the draw, no seeds except Russia and Ukraine teams could not face, and could not face a club you played in group stage, until the final. Barca drew Hertha Berlin and will host. Rest of the round of 16, hosts on left. Then round of 8 winners face team directly adjacent and hosts are match above, so Barca v Hertha winner hosts Lyon v. Ajax, and winner of those four teams is in the semifinal in Nyon as the nominal host of the Chelsea-Montpellier ---- Dinamo Zagreb-Liverpool winner; winner of those 8 teams in final against winner of bottom 8: FC Barcelona-Hertha Berlín Olympique de Lyon-Ajax Chelsea-Montpellier Dinamo Zagreb-Liverpool Hoffenheim-Dinamo Kiev Atlético-Real Madrid Oporto-Tottenham Midtjulland-Manchester United I cannot find any odds (or computer models) but I'd wager Barca meets Chelsea in the semifinal and the winner of that (I'll guess Chelsea) goes on to win the final over Oporto (wild guess).
The kids (well 18 year olds) are going to play Lyon too, but in the quarterfinals, they beat Hertha and Lyon beat Ajax to set it up. Barca won 3-0, Ilaix (43’) / Marqués (80’ / 83’), the Lyon match will also be played in Barcelona (pure luck of the draw), if they win that (April 2 or 3) they'll go to Nyon for the semis in April 26.
