Totally agree @barroldinho.... Although as it does involve 2 of my favorite United players, I do believe Fergie thought Solskjaer could adequately replace Becks on the right. Ole took a lot of Becks minutes those last 18 months and while his crossing wasn't obviously Becks level, he was still chipping in with a lot of goals. I think Fergie was gonna use Ole there before he had that awful few years with his knee.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-claims-former-Manchester-United-manager.html the rest of your post is drivel until you realize that you have no clue what you're talking about. i started with the first line, and, from the mouth of the horse itself, you've been shown you're wrong. the bolded doesn't make any sense. i have no comments until you clarify what you mean.
I think Ruud's departure was a mix of 2 things. First of all, Ruud and Ronaldo's relationship had failed and Fergie realized that Ronaldo was obviously worth more to the future. But I think he also felt that Saha may have fit better as part of the front 3 with Rooney and Ronaldo going forward. I think Ruud's mobility is actually underrated, but even then, Saha when fit was more dynamic and interchanging with those guys. If I remember right, Ruud continued to lose games to Saha after the Carling Cup. Fergie was essentially forcing him out by not playing him, at least that's how I look at it.
The guy had skills that much is clear and he knew the way to the net. Just like Ledley King, we'll never know his true potential because he was so unlucky with injuries that constantly dogged their careers.
Would imagine that the top 5 goes something like this (in no particular order): Cantona, RvN, Sparky, Rooney, Law. Many special mentions though: OGS, Cole, Yorke, McClair. I'd probably want to mention Teddy in there somewhere as well...
I forgot Viollet's name. I left a space for him though. Yorke/Cole are one striker for the purposes of the list.
Damn, a lot of these guys I haven't even heard of or seen play. Alan Brazil and Gary Birtles sound vaguely familiar, and then there are the legends long before my time, like Viollet and Law. Kind of funny that the clubs all-time goal scorer hasn't even been mentioned in his own thread.
A lot depends on how much longevity comes into question. In a list of attackers, Rooney wouldn't make the top 15.
I am sticking with strikers. Attackers brings 2 of our best players into play in Best and Ronaldo. It would be interesting to revisit all time United rankings one of these days.
