I’ll ask @ceezmad...could a graduate of Bob Jones University refuse to bake a cake for an interracial couple?
When I heard what the commissioner said, that is how I took it. It seemed to me that somebody was being prejudicial, and dressing it up though religion, Christianity in this case. And the commissioner was calling out that hypocrisy.
Can a baker refuse to sell me a cake that says kill all Christians or some obscene wording. For the little that I have read about the case it seem that the baker would have sold them a cake, one with out any works. Can you link me to a more detailed explanation of the case. It was a 7-2 decision (right?) so the technically had to be an important one.
It wasn't a question, it was a typical stupid SuperDave red herring. Bobby Jones doesn't even have a culinary school.
The culinary arts program at BJU opens the door to many career possibilities including: Executive chef. Caterer. Personal chef. Baker. Pastry chef. Line cook. Food and beverage manager. Kitchen manager. Culinary Arts, AS | Bob Jones University
Don't know. But google "x rated cakes" and see some of the results. Presumably some "disgusted by teh gays" religious bakers wouldn't flip out if asked to put knobs & hooters on a cake.
USSC allows states to purge voters who don't cast ballots. A big win for Republican voter suppression nonsense. I wanna flying elbow all those "well Trump & Hillary were equally bad!" asswipes out there. https://slate.com/news-and-politics...s-ohio-voter-purges-in-husted-v-randolph.html
Yeah, this decision is quite bad. As Sotomayor hinted in her dissent, discriminatory impact (an issue this case specifically did not address) lawsuits might follow.
That guy played golf. If they're like S-DAs, they're probably too stupid to appreciate shellfish anyway. Bass-ackward oxygen thieves
Maybe a bad analogy, but it would be like getting your driver's license and then getting a job where you took a train to work & didn't drive for a few years. Could the state say "you're not using this privilege any more, we're taking your license away"? Seems like some bizarre government overreach to me.
As someone who has driven a car like, three times in the last six years, yeah, I'd be fine with that. I shouldn't have a driver's license. The difference is that being a voter doesn't require any sort of skill or political literacy. It's not like someone's voting skill diminishes if they fail to cast a ballot.
But you having a driver's license (or gun license) and not using it is like being registered to vote & not using it. It affects nothing. It's yer goddamn right to drive/vote or not.
Its time for Blue States to take a close look at those suburban voter rolls. A counter purge is in order.
Well, the Court punted on the florist case as well, remanding it back to the Washington Supreme Court for it to reconsider its decision in light of Masterpiece. Rather odd thing to do given how fact-specific Kennedy claimed this case was and how the florist case (from what I've read) does not have any evidence of animosity toward religion in the record like the former (as characterized by the majority -- wrongly IMO) did.
