Greetings from Michigan! Anyone interested in playing this game or finding our more, get in touch with me. mike@mistfa.org or check the site: www.mistfa.org
I'm thinking about getting started in this. My friend is willing to buy all the supplies as long as I commit to play. Mind you neither of us knows anything about table soccer other than what we saw in "Fever Pitch" - the movie. What are we in for?
Okay, 1) It will be tricky at first 2) Its sort of like golf. you get upset with yourself for screwing up shots 3) You might travel a bit to play in a tournament 4) You get addicted 5) You spend more money on "professional" equipment. 6) You get better with each week playing 7) You join the mailing list and learn a lot of cool stuff 8) You meet some pretty cool people, and some dorky ones 9) Its a nice hobby that is sports related. 10) West Ham will continue to disappoint you on the pitch (real or otherwise) Hope that helps
11) There will be somebody you play who will beat you at least the first 30-50 times you play - keep trying. Ed Maryland Subbuteo Club
El Toro, Where do you live? There may be a good chance there are other players in or near your area. PM me if you want or send an email to the address listed earlier in this thread. To tell you what you are in for, is a challenging but crazy game. There is ALWAYS something to improve upon which makes this game fun and bringing you back for more.
The Sky Sports News report for anyone that missed it is on my site at: http://www.mistfa.org Nice reply panicfc, very thorough and very correct, although writered's amendment was a good one. Let us know where you are, El Toro. We can hook you up with a local player and then you can see the game as it is played.
And for those that want to see the REAL highlights of England/France check out this Subbuteo highlight video of the match: http://www.rainews24.it/ran24/speciali/europei2004/video/fra-ingh_1-2.wmv Simply hilarious.
And here is their whole webpage devoted to all of the Euro 2004 matches replayed on the Subbuteo pitch: http://www.rainews24.it/ran24/speciali/europei2004/moviolo.asp Enjoy!
I used to play Subbuteo alone when I was a kid ... I have practically never played with somebody else ... I had the Stadium edition and I remember repainting the teams to my linking (I think they're called zombie teams) ... I still have all that stuff minus the board. Well, I am in the Boston area if someone wants to play friendly games with a beginner. iougs-
Holy crap! We've got a new club starting on the Northshore of Boston. Send me a PM and I'll get you there emails. One guy is one of the top players in the US, the other guy is a beginner as well. Plus we have a big club in Connecticut. Check out sc-connecticut.com
My question about subbuteo is, wether you play it 1 on 1 only, or can you play with more players as well? Further, Does anyone have the newest streaker version already? and the police going along with it: http://www.vi.nl/images2/5/6/1/1992554669_1999999483_SubbuteoStreaker_192_221.jpg The source says it is an add to the game. A player can ask for the streaker. The streaker enters the 16 mtr box. The opponent then has to hit the streaker in an attack, with his police. When hit, the streaker is arrested. However, if the streaker won't be hit for 4 times at 4 different places of the field, it will be called a full streak. The streaker then can get back in the public and used again later. It could be a good trick to distract the opponent when he's in the zone. Anyone who uses it?
I've heard about the figures, and I have to admit I like the idea of distracting them with this streaker. I may have to get a few
As panicfc said, it has been played in various variations of 2v2. There is a team format played across 4 games at the same time with the total win-loss record counting, but that still involves 1v1 on each table. Don't compare Subbuteo to foosball (bar football). That's brute force and ignorance, whereas Subbuteo has a lot of finesse and tactics. Join your compatriots in some questions and hook up for a demo at: http://nsvb.hotforum.nl/
tourney results After Mark Holloway's shock win over Mike Benkart last weekend in Chattanooga, Keith Constable was a surprise winner at the Texas Cup. St. Louis will be verrrrrrrry interesting!
Shame I can't be there. Sounds like a fantastic event and I hope it is a catalyst for an even bigger event next year when it *won't* be on my mum-in-law's 50th birthday! Also looking forward to seeing some more ASA faces in Michigan in the near future.
Re: tourney results Hmmmmmm...why do some of you look so familiar??? Hi kids...forgot about the thread started up here...It was a pleasure having Mike here for the tournament...we had a blast...A shame Mark cant make it to St Louis..... you think you have him, and then he takes advantages of mistakes quickly. Keith is a really good player, and will only continue to get better. Class guy as well.
I used to play against myself when I was a kid too!! Played out entire 18-team leagues, World Cups, Euro Cups, you name it. Too much fun, but its been over a decade since I played! Is there anyone in Alexandria, VA area?
