The use of the word "combat" is particularly alarming, I thought.

Red River Gorge is one of the premier places East of the Mississippi river to climb. Nice limestone pockets, and thousands of lines and a picturesque setting. Professional climbers from all over the world make their way there. The fact it is deeply embedded in Trump country is a great troll job :)

Just to give you an idea how small this climbing community is and how full of it Trump is, I mentioned Trump's mountain climber article to a friend at the climbing gym who does collegiate and Olympic comps. She pulled out her phone and showed text messages with Kai Lightner and Alex Johnson, 2 people who were mentioned in the article posted here in this forum a few weeks ago. That is how small this elite level of US climbers are. Heck, I've even talked to Kai's mother on a few occasions when he was here at the climbing gym.

Edit- This was erected smack dab in the middle of Rocktober fest. The Premier festival for rock climbing in RRG https://g.co/kgs/GC9QG5

    @Kazuma

How does one clear the top section? Would you just sling some kind of rope over?

I mean can't a relatively average person just throw a rope over that thing, loop over the top and pull it back through the slats, then just rope over?

    Free climb looks harder

Yeah I actually got that article from my brother-in-law who's been climbing for over 40 years (and who first won me over as a kid when he was dating my sister by scaling our chimney in a few seconds:D).

Depending on the climber, if you're tall, you can easily just go for the top. Looking at that picture, just going out to the edges would do the job. Any climber with decent jamming skills could climb the wall no problem. But with a full wall? Let's just say look up slab climbing. :D Lot of footwork and body movement. Maybe use aid gear or ice axes. The thing with rock climbing is there's several disciplines involved and I only do four of them. I'll have to see how it was done.

North Face did a brilliant campaign that says "walls are meant for climbing." I might have to get a shirt now.

Congrats! I hope she did not have to renounce her prior citizenship, in case a quick exit from the country is required for the two of you.

Yeah, those polytheist pagans worship images of the virgin and the saints, and the pope is the anti-Christ.

Damn! If only that link had been available to the Chinese emperors, back in the day, a lot of unnecessary work could have been avoided.

Joe Arpaio, asshole sheriff and racist POS, has left, in Politico's words, a "Surprising legacy."

    https://www.politico.com/magazine/s...rizona-latino-activists-elected-office-229906

In a state that once compelled police officers to ask about the citizenship status of the people they pulled over and barred undocumented immigrants from getting driver’s licenses and paying in-state tuition at public universities, a growing number of Latino activists are using the lessons they learned in organizing against the immigration crackdown to catapult themselves into elected state and local office.

So new rules to screen for birth tourism.

Not sure how it will work.

I know it is big business for Russians and Chinese companies.

Not sure if I ever told this story here, but that happened to my dad.

He was adopted in another country and brought back as an infant and I guess everyone just plain forgot to get him citizenship. 70 years later, he applied for a passport and they told him to immediately go back to a country which he hadn't seen since he was a newborn.

Got a lawyer and beat the rap but still...crazy shit to go through for an old guy.

He held on to that for a good while for it to get all the way to you, didn't he? I'm guessing you're a Nixon baby at the oldest...

Bigger pic: How did he reconcile his conservatism with having a nephew of some color?

Probably a year or so after I got married in 1994 (Uncle by Marriage)

    1970

Mostly just racist, rather than conservative - like most Oklahoma Dems.

He had to come to terms with that long ago - wife is Mvskoke (Creek), though both of his sons look like tall bald chonky Redheaded Norwegians and both of them married Latinas, as one does on the south side of OKC...

Younger one divorced & married a Black-Native (Seminole Girl) and their kids are brown AF. Older one had a son that looks pretty generic brown hair white guy, then he married a blonde girl and had 3 boys that look like swedes and turn bright red in the son

Then his oldest granddaughter has two sons with black guys

So, he's had to come to terms with some shit
