Sydney equalizes with 15 1/2 to play. Kerr might have a knock. I'll update at quarters, or if something amazing happens. 6 1 0 WCE 6 1 0 SS. Thx, Jay!
WCE dominates possession but just can't score. One post hit and someone inside the goal box completely went wide! Sydney goes up with 10 seconds left in the quarter. After 1... SS 18 3 0 WCE 16 2 4. Thx, Jay!
Wow! SS 39 6 3 WCE 19 2 7. WCE completely disappeared in the second half. 3 behinds and that was it. They haven't scored a goal in about 35 minutes. WCE just had no entry into Sydney's 50 meter line. WCE has a 1 in 4 chance of coming back, but not the way they played in that half. Thx, Jay!
Three Quarter Time and WCE had a better 3rd than SS had in the second. Sydney 41 6 5, West Coast 39 5 9. That means Sydney managed 2 behinds. This could be a great final quarter. Thx, Jay!
5:00 left, 56-53 Sydney and WCE take the kick in straight out of bounds. Another behind for the Swans. 57-53. Thx, Jay!
1 minute left and WCE give up a 50 meter penalty! That might do it....behind 58-53...and.... Thx, Jay!
Swans win for the first time in 72 years. 58-54. They ran one behind to keep the Eagles from scoring with about 45 seconds to go. Very very close, very very exciting. Thx, Jay!
Carn the mighty Swans! What a fantastic grand final. [Result] Sydney 8-10-58 to West Coast 7-12-54[/Result]
No kidding. Just got back from it, at the MCG, and I have to admit that this was one of the very best sporting events I have ever seen, in person or on TV -- and I'm honored to have seen it in person (albeit having worked at the ground instead of losing my voice in the stands). Also kicking myself that I didn't put any money at my local TAB SportBet outlet on the result, the margin, and the best-on-ground player -- I tipped all three right.
great win for sydney. i just read an article over at foxsports.au that now League officials are shaking/scared that AFL popularity would rise in NSW now at the expense of NRL.
And is apparently really from Moonee Ponds (which is nearby Essendon, by the way). And I'm referring to Barry, not Edna.
