Klinsmann nominated his squad today, but also the players,
who have to keep fit till the end of the World Cup.
From this squad he can choose players,
if someone gets injured at the World Cup.
Sad guys, no holidays for you: :D

    goalkeeper: Robert Enke (Hannover 96)
defense: Manuel Friedrich (FSV Mainz 05), Patrick Owomoyela (SV Werder Bremen)
midfield: Fabian Ernst (FC Schalke 04), Paul Freier (Bayer Leverkusen)
Forward: Kevin Kuranyi (FC Schalke 04)

Freier, Owomoyela and M Friedrich are as good as the first team, if not better.

Hanke, and Kuranyi, well, personally I prefer Kuranyi but he sucks himself by getting into a prolonged spell of poor form. Damn!

    Name thread changed.

@Psychosis: Only if a player gets injured in the next weeks...he cannot be replaced once WC starts.

I agree with your second assesment of Ernst but not the first. Although I can't really say anything about Kuranyi's goal scoring record for the NT, which is quite good, he just doesn't striker me as a player who can have an impact and be an actual threat to a team....he is a player that relies too much on the rest of the team or simple circumstance.

Off topic, did you know that Steve Nash (Suns) is a big football fan, especially Tottenham, and plays quite well.

Kuranyi has great positioning. He's not exceptional in any area of course. But he seems to get to the right place. I've said in a thread before that he can't create jack shit for himself, but he gets into positions so that other people can set him up. Hanke is not experienced enough for that. Kuranyi knows where to be when the gk spills the ball, or the defense makes a mistake. That can be as great a weapon as a midfielder with a cannon shot (i.e. Hitzlsperger).

He's not as good as Klose at doing that, but if Klose gets hurt, I can't imagine a better replacement than Kuranyi IMHO.

As for Steve Nash, he plays football. Didn't know he was a Spurs fan. Oh well, he can't always be right. :D

Yes, as a matter of fact, Nowitsky and him always get together to watch games. Nash's father played professionally and I think Nash had a tryout as well.

  10. I'm not sure, but I think injured goalkeepers can be replaced even after the tournament starts.

Steve's brother Martin Nash was also a regular on the Canadian NT.

On a hockey-soccer note, Dominik Hasek's brother, Martin was also a Czech NT player.

No, it s/b: Kuranyi = Asamoah + Neuville + Hanke

    >>>>>>>> 20 = 6 + 6 + 1

This means Kuranyi scored 7 more goals than the other three together.

Of course,Kuranyi has more NT appeareances than two of the other three.

It depends on what teams did Kuranyi scored against. It is more difficult to score agaisnt Holland and Italy than to do it against weaker opposition teams like Latvia.
How many goals Kuranyi scored in EURO 2004?

Just because a player like Podolski has fewer goals than Kuranyi doesn't mean he worst than him.

No doubt. Podolski is first choice. Kuranyi should be first sub on the bench.

By the way Kuranyi has scored 2 against Argentina and 1 against Brazil not too long ago.
