Apparently, Sen. Paul is at it again. This is only a "filibuster" and not an actual filibuster, because of some arcane Senate rules. Sen. Wyden has evidently joined in again. http://reason.com/blog/2015/05/20/rand-paul-starting-a-filibuster-against I guess a couple hours ago he went after civil asset forfeiture and the idiotic structuring laws. Nice.
Paul on to the racist Drug War now. This is amazing. I read that the goal is to make it to midnight? What's the significance?
Damn, must have stepped out at the wrong time. Not sure. I've heard that he can really only go to tomorrow afternoon at the most because of some silly rule.
Sen. Christopher Coons (D-P.O. Box Capital of the Universe) with a "question". New question from Sen. Jon Tester (D-Big Sky). Anyone know who other than Lee, Coons, Tester, Manchin and Wyden have joined?
Heh! He's into Clean Water Act mission creep. Nice. Also, terrible gun-shaming laws, as in Westchester, NY.
An update: http://reason.com/blog/2015/05/23/senate-rejects-usa-freedom-act-but-also McConnell lost the USA Freedom Act cloture vote by 3 (57-42), and his preferred straight-up renewal cloture vote by 6 (54-45). Mitch begged for a temporary extension of a week. Paul and others refused, at which point Mitch began bargaining all the way down to a 2-day extension. Mitch failed at each turn. McConnell is calling the Senate back into session on the 31st to try to cobble something together. At this point, the expiration of Section 215 and other PATRIOT Act provisions looks like a real possibility. Anyone claiming that Paul just did what he did on Thursday for show should be eating their words (but they won't).
Two potentially big announcements in recent weeks: Rubio changed his mind Bayh shocked everybody and will run in Indiana This is a mixed bag for both parties, but overall I think this pretty clearly favors the GoP. Rubio puts Florida into "likely GoP" territory, while Bayh probably downgrades Indiana from "safe GoP" to "likely GoP" unless there's a tidal wave. Let's hope that Hillary makes the right VP choice and can get people fired up to get out to the polls, and that Trump keeps being Trump.
Any minute now, Trump is gonna pivot. Trump 2.0: the candidate of the future... and he always will be... (Brazilian expression about Brazil)
Evan Freaking Bayh? Good lord ... Still not clear why Baron Hill is dropping out, but I guess Bayh is the replacement -- and probably the only guy who could.
I don't get the Rubio thing. He just revealed himself to be a total lightweight intellectually, he got clobbered by Trump in his own home state (if I remember correctly) and Florida is going to go pretty convincingly for the Democrats in November. How does Rubio have a shot at reelection.... just the standard incumbency bonus?
Color me impressed! http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2016/...2-1-million-in-nine-days-for-re-election-bid/
Soooo, we need to dispense with this fiction that Rubio doesn't know what he's doing? He knows exactly what he's doing!
Oh yippee, Trump's endorsement of his platform has encouraged a Senate run in La. Won't this be fun. Promises to "stand up" for the oft-oppressed pale European-Americans
David Duke looks more like a corpse than ever. In good news for the Democrats, it appears that Ron Johnson is being abandoned by the money men as a lost cause, making Feingold's election likely.
This is going to be awesome. Trump needs this Senate run like an albatross around his campaign. Team Clinton is going to stick this to him. Becuase they can....and because it's true* *WTF happened to my old GOP
